JOB SUMMARYA well-established operator in the Southern African logistics sector is seeking a dynamic and operationally astute Operations Superintendent, Stevedoring for their growing team in Walvis Bay, Namibia. This role plays a pivotal part in the company’s drive to re-establish market share and deliver consistent, high-quality stevedoring services to clients across multiple cargo types. The position is shift-based and requires a hands-on leader who is comfortable managing people, ensuring safety and compliance, and taking ownership of port-side cargo operations in a fast-paced environment.

This role is integral to that mission, leading from the ground, driving operational improvement, and rebuilding a critical business unit. THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTIn order to be shortlisted for this role, candidates must meet the following core requirements:
Operational experience working with different vessel typesMinimum of 5 years’ experience in the stevedoring industryExperience in a supervisory or leadership roleFamiliarity with break bulk, heavy lifts, grab & hopper, and skip loading is importantExperience handling project cargo or specialised liftsStrong awareness of operational safety and complianceWillingness to work long or irregular hours as vessel schedules demandYou will also hold: A minimum qualification of a Matric (Grade 12)A Code 08 Driver’s LicenceQualification in rigging will be a strong advantageNamibian nationals and South African nationals will be considered. For non-Namibian candidates, visa sponsorship and relocation assistance will be provided.
JOB DESCRIPTIONThe role responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
Managing daily cargo operations including loading and discharge of vesselsAttending port meetings, safety briefings, and pre-plan sessionsBooking cranes and coordinating stowage planning for vesselsAllocating tasks to teams and monitoring real-time executionSupervising subcontractors and ensuring operational complianceConducting and reviewing risk assessments and safety protocolsEnforcing the use of PPE and maintaining clear evacuation accessLiaising with vessel agents, foremen, and operations personnelEnsuring accurate documentation and shift handovers are completedIdentifying operational challenges and taking corrective actionsTraining staff on SOPs and driving continuous improvement initiativesPlease be advised that only shortlisted candidates with the specific skills and experiences required to fulfil the responsibilities of the role will be contacted for an interview by one of our consultants.
