We are a sustainable, family-based business that provides quality service through experience, reliability, and leadership.The RoleAn excellent opportunity has arisen for an Intermediate or Senior Estimator / QS to join the Contracts Management team at Mills Albert. This role plays a key part in ensuring the company remains profitable and sustainable through robust tendering, analysis, and risk management.You’ll be working closely with the Commercial Manager and wider estimating team, leading the preparation of high-quality tenders and estimates while supporting project managers with accurate costings and commercial oversight. This role also provides the chance to mentor junior staff and contribute to continuous improvement within the business.Key Responsibilities IncludeLeading the preparation of accurate and timely cost estimates, tenders, and budgets.Managing the end-to-end contract lifecycle: RFI/RFP, tender, contract drafting, management, review, variation, and closing.Reviewing plans and specifications to determine material quantities, labour requirements, and itemised costs.Conducting site visits and attending pre-bid meetings to assess project risks and opportunities.Working with subcontractors, suppliers, and consultants to ensure clarity and alignment in project scope.Providing financial oversight including valuations, progress claims, and budget monitoring.Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of market rates, industry trends, and relevant legislation.Mentoring and supporting other members of the estimation/commercial team.To be successful:You will need to bring strong estimating and/or QS experience within civil construction, and the ability to price and tender across a variety of projects. You’ll combine commercial awareness with technical know-how, as well as strong client and stakeholder management skills.We Are Seeking Someone WithProven experience as an Estimator and/or QS in civil construction.Knowledge of NZS 3910 and sound contractual/commercial awareness.Strong client relationship and negotiation skills.Ability to analyse risk and manage budgets effectively.A collaborative, team-oriented approach, with mentoring experience valued.Full NZ Class 1 Driver Licence.NZ Residency or Citizenship (we are not an accredited employer).Why join us?At Mills Albert, we are passionate about our people and proud of our family culture.
