Family Support Specialist – Social Services / Child & Family SupportPittsburgh, PAFull-Time | Flexible Schedule Required (Evenings/Weekends Possible)Are you passionate about supporting children and families through challenging times? Every Child, Inc. is seeking a Family Support Specialist to join our dedicated team providing in-home, community-based services to families across our Family Preservation, Foster Care, and SWAN (Statewide Adoption and Permanency Network) programs. What You’ll Do: As a Family Support Specialist, you will: Provide In-Home, Medically Related Wraparound Services, SWAN units of service and Foster Care monitoring in the home and in the community.
Ensure family members’ active participation in case planning process by engaging families as partners in the change process. Maintain appropriate and professional boundaries with families and providers. Develop comprehensive service plans which clearly document attainable goals and objectives for each family. Complete accurate and timely completion of written assessments of children and families and tools to assist with evaluation and the quality improvement of programs. Identify and coordinate with formal/informal supports, community-based resources, and concrete items to assist families. Offer informal advocacy and emotional support to families and children.
Educate and review child development and parenting practices with caregivers to promote an increase in healthy parenting behaviors and attachment. Serve as a primary contact with medical, educational, and interagency contacts (including, but not limited to Allegheny County Children, Youth, and Families). Provide families with accompaniment to appointments in order to access services/benefits in the community. Respond effectively to psychosocial stressors families are experiencing (domestic violence, mental health, child abuse, etc. ) and de-escalate crisis situations as they arise.
Facilitate an understanding of how psychosocial stressors and other issues have impacted the functioning of the family and each of its members. Provide life skill education and practice (budgeting, meal planning, time management, etc. ). Meet productivity requirements of 35 of 40 documented hours with 70% direct time and 30% indirect time. Complete administrative documentation requirements as outlined in agency policy. Perform other special assignments, outreach, or miscellaneous duties as requested. Perform on-call duties as assigned. What You Bring: Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a related field.
1+ year of experience in child welfare, human services, or related internships Familiarity with social services compliance and training protocols/requirements. Ability to maintain highly confidential data. Excellent planning and organizational skills. Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills.
