Copper exploration is also focused on the Democratic Republic of Congo and exploration on the Western Foreland; in Angola and Zambia searching for the western extension of the Copperbelt; and additionally in South Africa we are exploring for mineralisation associated with the Northern Limb of the Bushveld Complex and it’s potential feeder at Mokopane. Management of the Kazakhstan Joint Venture Exploration Alliance (Pallas and Ivanhoe Mines) mineral exploration activities in Kazakhstan on Alliance exploration permits.
To manage and control budgets for all Exploration Contractor/s undertaking work on behalf of the alliance. To develop, train, supervise, mentor and guide the Alliance geological team as it expands in Kazakhstan. To ensure best practice guidelines are followed in the fields of exploration planning, geological, geochemical and geophysical data acquisition and processing, and diamond drilling. To oversee the compilation of advanced geological reports and presentations on project geology and mineralisation and to ensure the exploration team develop an overall understanding of the geological controls within the Chu Sarysu Basin.
To ensure best practice guidelines are followed in the fields of exploration planning, geological, geochemical and geophysical data acquisition and processing, and diamond drilling. RequirementsBSc Hons Geology or related qualifications. Post graduate degree (MSc or Phd) in applied geology. Valid Driver's License 10-15 years of related industry experience in exploration and mining with at least 5 years of field-based exploration experience. Sedimentary-hosted Stratiform Copper (SSC) experience required, with an understanding of Sedimentary Basin Analysis. Experience of managing large exploration project budgets dealing with soil sampling, geophysical, drilling contractors and geochemical assay laboratories.
Experience in geological and structural logging, sampling, geochemical data acquisition and interpretation. Experience in exploration data management and geological interpretation utilising advanced geological exploration and visualisation software packages. Experience of developing and mentoring junior geologists and helping them realise their potential. Minimum Advanced Skills And Knowledge InAdvanced computer and technical writing skills. Employee shall be proficient in the MS Suite. Employee shall be required to become proficient in the following applications within the first year of employment: ArcGIS, Leapfrog, acQuire, other application as specified. Kazakhstan Exploration Strategy and Technical leadDrive and enhance the exploration strategy in Kazakhstan. Collaborate with the senior exploration team to improve the geological understating of the Chu Sarysu BasinAssist the geological team in advanced geological, structural geology, geotechnical interpretationsGenerate new exploration target areas in the Chu Sarysu BasinInspire technical excellence across exploration targeting and testing Exploration Contractor and Budget ManagementDevelop and manage the annual Exploration budgets for Alliance operations in Kazakhstan. Management of Exploration Contractors to ensure sampling and drilling programmes are carried out to an appropriate International Standard.
Liaising with the Contractors to ensure compilation and timeous completion of geological and technical reports.
