Position SummaryThe External Affairs & Programs Associate plays a key role in advancing the University’s federal and state policy priorities and external engagement. Based in Washington, D.C., the Associate partners with the Director of Federal Affairs, the Assistant Vice President of Government Affairs, and the Director of External Affairs to advance the University’s policy agenda, advocacy efforts, and relationships with government entities. Leads the coordination and implementation of communications and outreach initiatives—including policy updates, newsletters, press releases, and event materials—and contributes to the conceptualization of strategies that strengthen the University’s visibility and impact among policymakers, higher education associations, and external partners. Responsible for analyzing and translating complex policy information for diverse audiences, coordinating high-level events and lobbying visits, managing outreach campaigns, and contributing to the NYU Brademas Center’s policy programming. Ensures effective operations through sound administrative and compliance practices and collaboration across university departments and external stakeholders. Travel to New York City and Albany may be required.QualificationsRequired Education:Bachelor's DegreePreferred Education:Master's DegreeRequired Experience:3+ years of relevant experience working in government, public policy, or government relations preferred.Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:Excellent organizational, interpersonal skills as well as demonstrated verbal and written communication skills. Social Media Post Scheduling Stakeholder outreach Excellent project management and organizational skills. Event Management Self-directed with the ability to manage multiple projects at once.Additional InformationIn compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $70,000.00 to USD $81,180.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
