The FNSF team comprises experts in energy retail, construction, and electricity market compliance and operations, backed by a leadership team that has been in the renewable energy markets of Australia and New Zealand for 20 years. The role As sole in-house legal support, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive legal support across the company. Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, your daily responsibilities will span a wide range, including: financial and land transactions, sales and purchase contracts, compliance, and risk management. This is a unique opportunity to manage the legal function in a fast-paced, high-impact environment.
ResponsibilitiesDraft, review and advise on complex financial and land transaction agreements, including sales and purchase contracts. Provide strategic legal advice to ensure compliance with New Zealand legislation and regulations. Develop, implement, and maintain compliance programs to mitigate legal and regulatory risks. Conduct risk assessments and provide proactive advice on risk management to support business objectives. Act as the primary legal point of contact, collaborating with internal stakeholders (including the management team and engineering, design, planning & consenting, and public relations & government affairs specialists) to deliver commercially focused solutions.
Engage with external stakeholders (including commercial counterparties and their counsel) in a commercially productive manner. Manage relationships with external legal counsel when specialist expertise or additional support is required, ensuring cost-effective outcomes. Monitor changes in legislation and industry best practices to ensure ongoing compliance and minimise risk. Maintain accurate legal records and provide regular updates to management on legal matters. Pre-requisites6-8 years PQE with extensive experience in financial and land transactions, gained in a reputable law firm or in-house environment. Proven expertise in drafting sales and purchase contracts.
Strong knowledge of New Zealand property law, financial regulations, and compliance frameworks. Demonstrated ability to manage risk and implement effective compliance programs in a commercial context. Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to build trust at all levels. Commercial mindset with a proactive, solutions-oriented approach to legal challenges. Ability to work autonomously, prioritise effectively, and thrive in a fast-paced environment. Current New Zealand practising certificate. PreferredExperience in the energy and electricity industry is preferred but not essential. We are flexible with the start date but would prefer a prompt employment start.
