If you're looking to work flexibly and with purpose, join a team that delivers measurable change for millionsJob PurposeThe Field Technician position is primarily a field-based position which plays an important role as an interface between Safe Water Now, Engineering, program implementation and communities served with chlorine dispensers by ensuring appropriate and timely repair and maintenance of chlorine dispensers and ILC (In-Line Chlorination) devices in a specific location.Reports to: Lead Field OfficerDirect Reports: NoneNumber of Openings: 1Duties and responsibilities:Conduct in-field and office chlorine dispenser hardware retrofits i.e. casings, tanks and valve repairs to reduce costs incurred on dispenser hardwareUndertake dispenser re-installations and maintenance in a timely and quality mannerCollect and send dispenser upgrade data for very dispenser repair, maintenance and re-installation undertakenRegular support and updating of engineering team and the Area Coordinator on the issues that are experienced in the field after undertaking chlorine dispenser hardware spot checks and maintenanceRegularly update the area coordinator and engineering team on the status of the various dispenser parts especially during the trial test of chlorine dispenser hardwareTracking of chlorine dispenser hardware that Safe Water Now tests in the field, by maintain all records of the same and sharing regular progress reports to the area coordinatorSupport in the assembly of new hardware as requestedMaintain hardware inventory for all the dispenser parts and dispenser repair/retrofit tools within their office/hub and advice team on new order needsAdvise and update the field teams on any new developments/improvements/innovations from the engineering and vice versaEngaging community and the local stakeholders for sensitization and messaging on dispenser usage to ensure chlorine dispenser security and dispenser vandalism casesSupport implementation of ongoing activities within field offices/hub/satellites e.g. chlorine deliveries, quality data collection and submission and hardware maintenanceManage, train, Supervise, mentor, shadow and coach community service assistants in the execution of their dutiesUtilize/manage well any funds allocated to them for facilitating field work or engineering activities in line with the finance policyEffectively use any allocated motorcycles with close attention on maintenance and repair costsDeveloping weekly work plans and reports for field activitiesSupport on conducting back checks for the ongoing activities (both physical and phone back checks)Other duties and responsibilities as guided by the SupervisorKey Performance Indicators:Chlorine device functionality ratesChlorine dispenser issues reported and resolved/addressed within 48 hours of reporting. Timely and quality data collection, submission and trackingNumber of coaching sessions conducted and verifiable impact on performance of Community Service AssistantsRequirementsQualifications:Certificate or diploma in Plumbing, Water Engineering, or related technical fieldUganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE/UBTEB from a recognised Vocational School)1-2 years of experience working with communities or social enterprises/NGOsMinimum of 2 years' experience in water supply system plumbing, preferably in rural or community settingsExperience with chlorination systems, dosing equipment, or water treatment devices is an added advantageBasic knowledge of water quality testing methodsAbility to read and interpret plumbing diagrams and technical specificationsStock management experience/qualifications are an added advantageComputer literacyMotorcycle riding experience is A MUST with a valid driving license (Class A) from a recognized driving schoolFluency in English, Lugisu, and Lusoga. This involves maneuvering in rural setting terrains with chlorine dispenser/ILC device repair and maintenance tools by motorcycle.Physical RequirementsPosition requires ability to ride a motorcyclePosition may require ability and comfort climbing ladders and accessing water storage tanks at heightsPosition LocationThe role will be based in Mbale, Eastern Uganda.We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of Ugandan employment visa at this time.
