Job Description

This position oversees the Film and Tourism divisions within the Special Events, Film, and Tourism Office, coordinating responses to industry issues, developing policies that balance economic growth and quality of life, and ensuring the sustainability of the City of Savannah’s film and tourism activities. It also facilitates safe and equitable use of the public right-of-way citywide as it relates to tourism and film.Supervises, directs and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.Coordinates, assigns, and reviews work; establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors the status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.Promotes community partnerships to identify and solve problems.Maintain accurate documentation on appropriate forms and tracking of violations for film and tourism activities.Manages the preparation of tourism plans and programs.Researches, writes, and edits film and tourism-related ordinances. Suggests revisions and coordinates implementation of the changes.Manages film and tourism-related permitting and contracts. Issues temporary use permits, resolves problems and complaints, and develops policies and procedures.Develops and implements outreach programs and coordinates the dissemination of film and tourism promotional materials; prepares media material.Researches best practices and develops internal and external policies and procedures related to film permitting and tourism management.Coordinates complex, multi-faceted projects with high public visibility or involvement by multiple parties. Implements special projects, conducts public noti?cation programs, and communicates results.Assists in mediating complex and high-pro?le issues. Develops memos and presentations to ensure accountability and coordinates activities with other sta? and stakeholders.Coordinates and serves as sta? liaison to the Mayor and Aldermen appointed Tourism Advisory Committee.Coordinates holiday programming and holiday decorations installation and breakdown.Responds to customer inquiries and complaints.Facilitates safe, sustainable opportunities to utilize the public right-of-way for film activities throughout the City of Savannah.Plans organizes, coordinates, integrates, and implements detailed schedules for film productions to achieve established goals.Serves as a liaison to areas with film activity to achieve peaceful and mutually beneficial co-existence between productions, residents, and businesses.Facilitates communication and promotes an atmosphere of trust, fairness, and collaboration amongst diverse stakeholders.Assists film professionals and students in achieving consistent compliance through increased education.Conducts set visits to ensure compliance with film permits and issues cease and desist orders for film activity violating permit permissions and/or local, state, and federal law.Maintain accurate documentation of yearly film and tourism data.Performs other related duties as assigned.Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Communications, Public Relations, or a closely related field with four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in Film, Marketing, Public Relations, Events, or Hospitality Industry; or possession of any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.Must have the ability to become City Marshall upon selection for this position.Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.Knowledge of film and media productionKnowledge of tourism and hospitality industry practices and standardsKnowledge of project coordination, event or holiday decoration planningKnowledge of municipal permittingKnowledge of City and departmental rules, regulations, policies and procedures.Knowledge of diplomatic communication (verbal and written).Skill in planning and logisticsSkill in relationship management among diverse interest groups.Skill in developing and managing interpersonal relations.Ability to compile information and prepare reports and presentations.Ability to be open-minded and flexible.Ability to make fair and appropriate decisions related to film activity.Ability to mediate disagreements.Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team whose members may display a range of perspectives and personalities.Ability to work changing hours during which high-profile film activity is taking place.Ability to establish priorities and organize work.Ability to create both written and oral communications.
