Financial Controller & Turnaround SpecialistAre you a results-driven, highly analytical, and resilient finance leader who excels at diagnosing financial issues and implementing strategies for rapid improvement?Our clients are seeking an experienced Financial Controller with a proven background in financial turnaround and business optimization to join our senior team. our clients provide essential services and solutions to vessels worldwide and are looking for a financial architect to quickly assess our current financial health, stabilize performance, and build a path toward sustained profitability and growth.About the Role: Financial Leadership and TurnaroundThe Financial Controller will be responsible for the entire finance and accounting function while simultaneously acting as a turnaround specialist. You will immediately audit and analyze current financial operations, identify key areas of loss and inefficiency, and drive the necessary financial and operational changes to ensure the company's long-term financial stability and success. This position reports directly to the Managing Director/CEO.Comprehensive Scope & ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will own and manage all aspects of the company's financial health, internal controls, and statutory compliance: Financial Assessment & Turnaround Strategy:Quickly evaluate the company's current financial position, profitability by segment, internal controls, and operational efficiency.Develop and implement a comprehensive financial turnaround plan focused on cost reduction, working capital optimization, and revenue enhancement initiatives.Lead the restructuring of financial processes, systems, and teams to enhance transparency and accountability.Accounting & Reporting Oversight:Manage the full-cycle accounting process, including the General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, fixed assets, and payroll.Prepare and present accurate, timely, consolidated monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with IFRS/GAAP standards.Provide crucial variance analysis, leading indicators, and insightful commentary to the executive team, clearly articulating the progress of the turnaround efforts.Treasury & Cash Flow Management:Aggressively manage cash flow projections and monitor daily liquidity to meet operational needs.Optimize working capital by driving down Accounts Receivable days, optimizing inventory valuation, and managing vendor payment terms.Oversee foreign currency exposure and hedging strategies related to international trade and multi-currency transactions.Budgeting, Forecasting & Strategic Planning:Lead the annual budgeting process and develop robust, dynamic financial forecasts and long-range planning models.Monitor performance against budget, controlling capital expenditure, and ensuring efficient resource allocation.Internal Controls & Compliance:Design, implement, and maintain a robust framework of internal financial controls to safeguard company assets and prevent fraud.Ensure strict compliance with all local, national, and international financial regulations, tax requirements (VAT/GST, corporate tax, etc.), and statutory filings.Coordinate and manage external audits and liaise with tax authorities.International Travel:Travel is required for approximately one week every two months to visit regional offices, subsidiaries, or major international partners to conduct on-site financial reviews, audit controls, and drive operational alignment across the business. Qualifications & ExperienceEducation: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. A relevant professional certification (CPA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent) is required.Experience: Minimum of 7+ years of progressive experience in financial management, with at least 3 years in a Controller or Finance Director role.Proven Turnaround Track Record: Demonstrated, verifiable experience successfully diagnosing and implementing financial and operational improvements in a distressed or underperforming company.Industry Knowledge: Experience within the maritime, shipping, logistics, or supply chain industry is highly preferred.Technical Skills: Expert-level knowledge of accounting principles (IFRS) and practical experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics).Availability: Must be willing and able to travel internationally for approximately one week every two months to drive global financial stability.Leadership: Strong ability to lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance team.
