Job Title: First Commis ChefDepartment: Kitchen / Culinary Reports To: Demi Chef de Partie / Chef de Partie / Sous ChefJob Summary:The First Commis Chef assists in the preparation, cooking, and presentation of dishes in accordance with the kitchen standards and recipes. This role is ideal for someone developing their culinary skills and looking to gain more experience in a professional kitchen. The First Commis supports senior chefs in maintaining food quality, hygiene, and consistency across all sections.Key Responsibilities:Prepare ingredients for cooking, including chopping vegetables, preparing sauces, and portioning meat or fish.Cook dishes under the supervision of senior chefs, ensuring consistency in taste and presentation.Follow recipes, portion control, and plating guidelines set by the Chef de Partie or Sous Chef.Assist in receiving and storing deliveries, ensuring proper stock rotation (FIFO).Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in workstations, complying with food safety and sanitation standards.Support senior chefs during busy service periods and help in mise en place preparation.Check and report any kitchen equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs.Uphold all kitchen and food safety standards (HACCP or local regulations).Participate in training and development programs to enhance cooking skills and kitchen knowledge.Qualifications & Skills:Certificate or diploma in Culinary Arts or relevant field (preferred).1–2 years of experience in a professional kitchen environment.Basic knowledge of cooking methods, kitchen operations, and hygiene standards.Good communication and teamwork skills.Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.Positive attitude, eagerness to learn, and attention to detail.Physical Requirements:Ability to stand for long periods.Capable of lifting moderate weights (up to 20 kg).Comfortable working in a hot, fast-paced kitchen environment.
