Job Description

Penn State is searching for a full time Food Service and Production Worker (Berks) - Grade 10 - Grade 10 to join the team. Duties include: Prepare food items to be served such as, salad dressing, salads, vegetables, condiments, muffins, baked goods, sauces, sandwiches, wraps, fruit, yogurt and pudding parfaits, sushi, hard boiled eggs and other simple menu items as directedFollow simple recipes in cooking or preparing ingredients for all of the aboveSet up and check dishes, utensils, signs, condiments, etc.For serving lines and food bars according to menuMaintain quality, freshness and cleanliness of food bars, condiments, dessert stations and the areas in which they are servedCheck products to ensure they meet established standards of appearance, quality and portion sizeReplace all products that do not meet standardsSet up food displays and props/decorations for daily service and special eventsWork on serving counter and food stations as requiredBe knowledgeable about daily menus and recipe ingredientsEnsure correct portion size is distributedMove food to and from serving counter and food bars as requiredReplenish and rotate stock in merchandiser displays and on food bars to maintain quality and freshnessMaintain food service recordsMonitor food volume prepared and leftovers at end of mealOperate and clean equipment such as, mixer, chopper, cutter, meat/cheese slicer, can opener, under-counter dish machine, toaster, blender, pasta cooker, rice cooker, fryer, coffee brewer, convection oven, etc.Clean refrigerator, tables, sinks and pansClean work area and equipment and ensure general cleanliness and sanitation by following established guidelines to ensure proper food safety and sanitationMonitor food temperatures and make adjustments as necessary; maintain accurate temperature logs when requiredInstruct part-time employees when necessary. Sort and restock laundry or linen as neededClean floors, carpets and stairs by sweeping, wet and dry mopping, or vacuuming as instructedPerform periodic and special cleaning duties as requiredTake orders and ring up sales on cash register as necessaryMake change as requiredJob Requirements: Requires the use of commercial English, grammar and arithmetic such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, including decimals and fractions; simple use of formulas, charts, tables, drawings, specifications, schedules, wiring diagrams, together with the use of adjustable measuring instruments, graduates and the like requiring interpretation in their various applications; or the posting, preparation, interpretation, use and checking of reports, forms, records and comparable data. Up to and including 3 months of effective experience.Work Schedule: Tuesday - Thursday 11:30 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.,Friday, Saturday 12:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.Days Off: Sunday, MondayQUALIFICATIONSMINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCEUp to 3 months of effective experience  REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONSNone BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCESEmployment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies. Penn State does not sponsor or take over sponsorship of a staff employment Visa.
