Role OverviewWe are looking for a Furniture & Light Designer who can translate Studio December’s bold, culture-led design philosophy into iconic pieces across furniture, lighting, and spatial objects. The role combines product design, material innovation, prototyping, vendor collaboration, and aesthetic storytelling. You will design pieces that are functional, luxurious, and rooted in craftsmanship — built for India and the world.Key Responsibilities1. Product Design & Development • Conceptualize and design furniture pieces (chairs, tables, consoles, storage, accent furniture, outdoor furniture). • Design lighting products (pendants, floor lamps, table lamps, sconces, ceiling systems). • Create sketches, CAD drawings, 3D models, and detailed product specifications. • Develop moodboards, material boards, and concept narratives for each collection. • Ensure every product reflects the brand’s language: modern, culturally inspired, and globally relevant.2. Prototyping & Technical Detailing • Build detailed technical drawings, renderings, and manufacturing-ready blueprints. • Work closely with vendors, artisans, and workshops to convert concepts into prototypes. • Conduct material testing, structural checks, and quality reviews.3. Vendor Coordination & Production Oversight • Work with wood, metal, upholstery, ceramic, and lighting vendors across India. • Ensure correct implementation of finishes, joineries, wiring standards, safety norms, and quality. • Travel to factories/workshops when needed for QC and approvals. • Maintain BOMs (Bill of Materials), production timelines, and cost sheets.4. Collaboration with Internal Teams • Work closely with interior stylists, sourcing teams, and the private-label product team. • Support Studio December’s B2B styling and sourcing projects with custom designs. • Coordinate with brand, content, and photo teams for launch assets and storytelling.5. Research & Innovation • Stay updated on global furniture & lighting trends, materials, and technologies. • Introduce new ideas: modular systems, sustainable materials, Indian craftsmanship reinterpretations, experimental finishes, LED innovations, etc.Key Skills & Competencies • Proven experience in furniture design or lighting design. • Proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, Rhino, Fusion 360, or SolidWorks. • Strong understanding of materials: wood types, metals, ceramics, fabric, glass, rattan, cane, stone, etc. • Knowledge of manufacturing processes: joinery, welding, casting, moulding, polishing, wiring, fixture engineering. • Ability to create high-quality 3D renders and present concepts clearly. • Strong sense of aesthetics, balance, proportion, and space. • Ability to multitask, manage timelines, and work across multiple projects.Personality & Cultural Fit • Obsessive attention to detail. • Loves form, texture, light, and experimentation. • Thrives in a fast-paced, design-first, founder-led company. • Curious, proactive, solutions-driven. • Comfortable working with artisans and manufacturers.Experience & Qualifications • Bachelor’s/Master’s in Furniture Design / Product Design / Industrial Design. • 2–6 years of relevant experience (flexible depending on portfolio strength). • Strong portfolio showcasing furniture + lighting work.LocationMumbai, with travel to factories, vendor units, and project sites as needed.What We Offer • Work in one of India’s most design-forward homeware and styling companies. • Opportunity to create signature collections under Hello December’s private label. • Fast growth, high ownership, and exposure to high-impact design projects across India. • A chance to build India’s next global home & lifestyle brand.
