As a member of the Accelerator Science & Technology Group inside the Broader Approach & Roadmap Projects Unit, the Accelerator Technical Assistant will be playing an active role in performing activities related to the assembly, integration, check-out tests, maintenance and in particular operation of the LIPAc (Linear IFMIF Prototype Accelerator) project located in Rokkasho, Japan, which is being commissioned.
F4E, as the European Implementing Agency, and QST (National Institutes for Quantum Science and Technology), as the Japanese Implementing Agency of the Broader Approach, collaborate to install and commission the LIPAc facility at Rokkasho (Japan) for the demonstration of a high intensity deuteron beam at 9 MeV. This 1. 125 MW accelerator consists of systems engineered and provided by European fusion laboratories such as INFN, CIEMAT, CEA, and SCK-CEN, and is jointly managed by both Japanese and European Home Teams. With the initial stages of the commissioning plan now complete, LIPAc is moving into its most critical and thrilling phase:
the commissioning of the accelerator in its final setup. This phase will commence following the completion and integration of the SRF-Linac into the beam line in 2025. Fusion for Energy (F4E) is managing Europe’s contribution to ITER, the biggest fusion experiment, and is contributing to several other major projects in the same domain.
