Our ProfileIn 2020, G Mining Ventures (GMIN) was created to acquire direct ownership of projects and capitalize on the value uplift that successful mine development offers. In July 2024, GMIN acquired the Oko West project. The Oko West Project is a new gold discovery in northwest Guyana. It is located south of the historical “Oko” gold district, some 95 km west of Georgetown. Health and Safety OfficerThe Health & Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring that the mining operation complies with all health and safety regulations and standards.
The role involves developing, implementing, and monitoring health and safety programs, conducting risk assessments, providing training, and ensuring a safe working environment for all employees, contractors, and stakeholders. Key ResponsibilitiesHealth & Safety Strategy And ImplementationDevelop, implement, and review health and safety policies, procedures, and management systems in line with company and regulatory standards. Ensure compliance with local, national, and international mining safety regulations and legislation. Risk Assessment And MitigationConduct comprehensive risk assessments to identify hazards, assess risks, and implement control measures. Regularly review and update risk management strategies.
Incident ManagementSupport in investigations of incidents, near-misses, and accidents to determine root causes. Prepare detailed reports and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Auditing And ComplianceConduct regular health and safety audits and inspections of mine sites, facilities, and equipment. Ensure proper documentation and reporting of safety metrics and compliance. Training And AwarenessDeliver health and safety training programs for employees, contractors, and stakeholders. Promote a culture of safety awareness through campaigns, workshops, and toolbox talks. Emergency PreparednessTest emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures and crisis management strategies. Coordinate emergency drills and liaise with local emergency services.
Monitoring And ReportingMonitor workplace conditions and worker behaviors to ensure adherence to safety standards. Qualifications/Skills And ExperienceDegree In Occupational Health & Safety or related field. Certificate in health & Safety (NEBOSH or OSHA or Equivalent)At least 3-5 years in Health & Safety position within construction project/mining industry. AdditionalStrong knowledge of relevant Health & Safety regulations and standards. Willingness to work in a remote location. Advanced computer skills. Developed interpersonal skills. Good oral and written communication skills. Excellent decision making, problem solving and priority setting skills. Developed cultural awareness and sensitivity. Working ConditionsPosition based at the OKO Project site.
Work Schedule – 14 days on/7 days OffTransport, accommodations, and meals provided on site. Compensation Package1-year contract for the construction period, with the possibility of a permanent position once the mine is in operation.
