General Cargo Operations Manager

ROLE OVERVIEWThe General Cargo Operations Manager is to lead general cargo operations including the optimization of cargo flows, processes and procedures, safety, reporting, budgeting and leadership direct reports. ROLE COMPETENCIES & ACTIVITIES The General Cargo Operations Manager responsibilities will include, but not be limited to: Stakeholder ManagementAnalyze stakeholders’ needs, interests, and influence to prioritize engagement strategies.Develop and implement stakeholder engagement plans tailored to different stakeholder groups. Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders through regular communication and meetings.Act as the primary point of contact for stakeholders, addressing their concerns and providing updates on relevant activities.Manage the dissemination of information, ensuring timely and accurate communication.Work closely with internal teams, including communications, project management, and legal, to ensure stakeholder interests are aligned with organizational objectives.Identify and address potential conflicts or issues with stakeholders proactively.Mediate disputes or misunderstandings, ensuring that resolutions are in the best interest of both the stakeholders and the organization. Change Management Provides leadership for all general cargo execution workstreams Develop strategies to deliver scope effectively and at highest performance levelsLeads, coaches, and develops teamEstablishes and implements objectives, implementation planning, policies and procedures for general cargo operations.Participates in planning and performance meetings internally and externally with internal and external customer baseSupport direct reports through conflict resolutionProvides improvement and performance feedback and support to team on planning, vessel stevedoring and general cargo handlingEnsure teams are trained specifically in their scope of workCollaborate with team to establish safe working practices, identification of risks and mitigation pointsEnforces standardization and ensures safe working practices are being followedEnsures a cost-efficient operation in line with current best practice and annual budgetLiaises closely with customers, Customs, landside mobility and government authorities to ensure that their requirements are metEstablishes performance targets, measurements and reporting transparentlyCollaborate with training team to establish a training plan and training schedule for front and back-office teamCreating an environment for continuous learning and development alongside a training team that ensures accountability and effective performance Ensures team is trained in KSA and international standards with required certifications and diplomasManages employee performance issues including training, appraisals, discipline, and grievances.Contributes to and develops relationships with all suppliers and related port users Develop self and always maintain knowledge in relevant field.Manage divergent interests through prioritization Implementation of new equipment and systems Support and drives development of personalized safety culture Defines and updates procedures to ensure zero human engagement in shadow fall area or line of fire Ensures highest possible safety standards through separation of man from machine and manpower engagement Project Management Provide regular reports to senior management on stakeholder engagement status, risks, and opportunities.Use feedback and data to refine and improve stakeholder management strategies.Coordinate stakeholder involvement in projects, ensuring their feedback is integrated into planning and decision-making processes.Track and monitor stakeholder engagement activities and their impact on project outcomes. EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge, Skills and Experience7+ years in general cargo roles with a minimum of 4 years in management positions.Previous Project Implementation experience a plusThe position requires a professional standard of knowledge to lead teams through functional/general expertise in general cargo operations as well as broad management skills.Proven experience in safety, cost and productivity improvement as well as design and implementation of new operations procedures for continuous improvement Strong communication skills including ability to communicate across the organization and stakeholders effectivelyExcellent analytical skillsEffective negotiation and conflict resolution skillsAbility to influenceAbility to provide leadership, obtain cooperation and promote a team environment to meet objectives. QualificationsBachelor’s degree in relevant field
