KEY RESPONSIBILITY SERVICE DELIVERY AND PLANNING Working with the Service management team to develop effective service delivery plans for the specialty/service. Programs must be implemented and delivered without compromising patient care and within an agreed budget. Develop effective working relationships across scheduled and unscheduled care specialties and other Agencies and, where appropriate other Boards. This ensures that acute, primary, secondary, and tertiary care services are thoroughly integrated, promoting patient-focused care pathways within the Hospital. Work collaboratively with service managers and medical colleagues to ensure the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered, safe care for the specialty/service.
Specifically, the post holder will lead on managing patient flow, to minimize boarding and delayed discharges. Lead on service re-design work to ensure safe and sustainable services are developed for the specialty within allocated financial budgets (staff, drugs, and equipment). This work should foster improved multidisciplinary team working with other professional staff groupsSupport an active Research and Development program within the specialty aimed at improving the quality and cost-effectiveness of services offered by the specialty, as well as securing lasting improvements in health for the people of the Hospital and beyond.
CLINICAL GOVERNANCE Review and ensure investigation of all adverse incidents arising within the specialty /service regularly to ensure compliance with the Hospital’s Incident Management Policy. Also, ensure learning from incidents is shared and embedded within the specialty and across specialties in other parts of the Hospital, as appropriate. The post holder will ensure that significant adverse events are appropriately investigated and escalated to the Medical Director to ensure that senior managers are informed, as appropriate. Act as a senior lead, on investigations into matters concerning performance, conduct or grievance of medical staff.
Review complaints to ensure that all complaints are dealt with promptly and sensitively. Learning from complaints must be shared across all clinical team members, as well as the broader organization, where appropriate. Ensure the specialty/service has systems and processes to collect robust clinical data. The post holder will scrutinize and challenge reports on clinical performance activity. This is to ensure the specialty is performing satisfactorily in audit activity, performance management, and medical staff productivity. Accurate clinical activity data must inform service redesign work.
The post holder will ensure clinical engagement of the specialty/service by developing effective two-way communication between themselves and medical colleagues. This ensures staff's professional and clinical views are well represented at a senior level in the organization and administrative messages are shared consistently and widely with all medical staff.
