Job Description

Town of Guernsey Public Works/Parks Maintenance40 hours per weekPerforms a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks assisting in the construction, repair,installation and maintenance of buildings, parks, streets, water/wastewater, utility lines,buildings, irrigation, mowing and other public works facilities. Essential Duties And ResponsibilitiesWork in and around raw sewage/wastewater, underground and overhead utilities. Read water andelectric meters for billing. Requires manual digging, excavating, grounds keeping, upkeep,cleaning of Town facilities. Clear minor sewer blockages, clogged storm drain basins and assistwith other maintenance employees in performing repairs/maintenance of streets,water/wastewater, and electric facilities.

Paint street markings and perform street signmaintenance. Maintain parks, golf course, irrigation, etc. Follow all safety policies of the PublicWorks Department. Must be able to multitask and perform other duties as assigned bysupervisor. Desired Minimum QualificationsHigh School diploma or equivalentAt least one (1) year of professional experience in construction, maintenance, orconstruction and/or public infrastructure labor. Special QualificationsMust obtain Water/Wastewater Certifications within one (1) year of hire date. Must be able to take call outs and be on 24-hour standby. Necessary Knowledge, Skills And AbilitiesSafe work and driving practices. Operate pickups, trucks and moderately light power-drivenequipment when assigned.

Use hand and power tools and equipment required in general buildingand grounds maintenance work. Perform heavy manual labor for extended periods undersometimes unfavorable conditions. Read, write, understand and carry out oral and writtendirections. Work cooperatively with other employees and the public. Supervision ReceivedWorks under the close supervision of the Public Works Superintendent, according to anestablished work routine. Tools and Equipment UsedHand shovel, pick up, skid steer, backhoe, lawn mower, weed eater, hand tools, power tools, andvarious construction equipment.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, colorvision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Outdoorwork is required in the inspection of various land use developments or public works facilities. While performing the duties of this job, the employee works in outside weather conditions.

Theemployee works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places, and is exposed towet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risks ofelectrical shock, and vibrations. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, attimes loud when operating equipment.
