SESLHD is committed to enabling our community to be healthy and well, and to providing the best possible compassionate care when people need it.The Kirketon Road Centre (KRC) is a targeted primary health care facility involved in the prevention, treatment and care of HIV/AIDS and other transmissible infections among people who inject drugs, sex workers, people experiencing homelessness, Aboriginal people, LGBTIQ+ people and ‘at risk’ young people .The Harm Reduction Project Officer position is responsible for the development and support of the Needle &Syringe Program (NSP) and other initiatives to prevent and reduce transmissible infections and other drug-related harms among people who inject drugs in the South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD).The position is District-wide with primary locations at the Sutherland Hospital and Kings Cross. This position will involve the establishment of new NSP outlets; design and delivery of training packages; supporting new and existing NSP outlets including secondary NSPs auspiced by KRC; and involvement in relevant health promotion and community development activities.This position also supports the strategic development of initiatives at KRC/KRC South aimed at identifying hard-to- reach populations at risk of acquiring HIV and hepatitis C (HCV) and developing appropriate outreach models in various settings to ensure early diagnosis and assessment of BBVs and maximise uptake of treatment in such populations. Selection CriteriaRelevant tertiary qualification and relevant work experienceDemonstrated understanding of and commitment to harm reduction and the Needle Syringe Program including an awareness of the complexities and challenges involved in setting up a new NSPDemonstrated ability to coordinate, manage and evaluate projects, to meet deadlines and to liaise with a diverse range of stakeholders eg community members, non-government organisations, LHD Executive, government agencies and other health workersDemonstrated capacity to develop, deliver and evaluate training programsDemonstrated understanding of health promotion and community development frameworksAdvanced communication and professional writing skills, including the production of high-level reports and competence in Microsoft Outlook, data entry and use of health systems.Willingness and ability to provide frontline healthcare services in the sometimes unpredictable and occasionally volatile environment of KRC, KRC South and outreach on day and evening shifts and occasional weekends shiftsCurrent NSW driver's license and travel in SESLHD with willingness to work across SESLHD with primary locations at the Sutherland Hospital and Kings CrossNeed more information?
