Hartree Partners LP - Natural Gas Analyst (NY, NY) Maintain vast supply and demand modeling of North American natural gas markets, including but not limited to: production algorithms, power burn intensity models, and databases of LNG and pipeline projects. Build and maintain supply and demand models including dashboards to synthesize fundamental developments, and forecasting models for supply, demand, storage, and prices. Develop quantitative techniques to inform investing and valuation of financial instruments. Process large datasets, web scraping, and development of analytics for back-testing.
Write reports discussing key developments in gas and power markets and their effect on commodity and capital markets. Regularly identify quantitative, qualitative, and regulatory factors that will alter research conclusions. Produce statistical modelling and timeseries forecasting and econometrics. Identify data streams that will improve modeling accuracy through back testing and forward-looking techniques. Present market views during internal meetings and communicate with internal stakeholders to generate trade ideas. Collaborate with trading and research teams to identify and quantify key drivers impacting supply and demand balances. Communicate and update conclusions to investment staff regularly.
Interact with vendors, brokers, and other market participants to gauge investor sentiment & market consensus and gather market intelligence. Requires a Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related quantitative field plus at least four (4) years of experience as a Quantitative or Research Analyst, Associate, or in a related position performing quantitative analysis or quantitative research at a financial institution. Must have experience with the following:
conducting economic and quantitative research with a focus on analyzing and forecasting energy markets using econometric and statistical models; providing market views, forecasts, and investment strategies; researching, econometric and statistical model building, forecasting, and identifying causal and predictive economic relationships using big datasets; presenting market views, including investment in commodities futures or commodities equity markets; coding in Python; and using market data software, including Bloomberg and Genscape. The anticipated hiring base salary for this position is $125,000 - $175,000 /yr, depending on factors such as experience, education, level, and skills. This range is based on a full-time position.
