We provide AR licensing, access to leading insurers and underwriters, compliance oversight, account reconciliation, technology infrastructure, and rewards programs.Our mission is to build Australia's best operating platform that lets independent insurance brokers run faster, scale smarter, and stay compliant, so they can grow their business without getting buried in admin.The OpportunityWe are seeking a Founding Head of Accounting to build and lead Maggie’s accounting function from the ground up, serving our network of independent insurance brokers across Australia.This is a hands-on, client-facing leadership role for an experienced insurance accounting professional who wants to design the systems, controls and reporting frameworks that help brokers operate with confidence and compliance under Maggie’s AFSL.You will start as an individual contributor, directly supporting out-of-network brokers with bookkeeping, trust reconciliation, BAS/IAS lodgements, and financial reporting. Over time, this role will evolve into a leadership position overseeing a growing onshore and offshore accounting team.Key ResponsibilitiesEstablish and manage Maggie’s accounting and trust reconciliation operating frameworkProvide bookkeeping, payroll, BAS/IAS lodgements and financial reporting services to brokersSupport brokers with compliance and financial record keeping under the AFSLRecruit, train and manage a growing onshore and offshore accounting teamAct as a Responsible Manager for Maggie’s AFSLRequired Qualifications and ExperienceCA or CPA qualificationMinimum 3 years’ experience in Australia within the general insurance industry, ideally with a broker, underwriting agency or AFSL holderHands-on experience in bookkeeping/payroll, trust reconciliation, BAS/IAS lodgements and financial reportingProven practical knowledge of retail and wholesale general insurance products and distribution modelsExperience leading accounting teams and building scalable offshore functionsFamiliarity with broker operating platforms such as WinBEAT and JavelinProven ability to leverage AI tools to improve reporting accuracy and efficiencyExceptionally strong communication, organization, strategic planning, and leadership skillsRole DetailsFully remote role, open to candidates based anywhere in AustraliaInitial engagement of approximately two days per weekPathway to full-time employment and equity as the business scalesOpportunity to shape the strategic direction of the accounting departmentReports directly to the Founder#InsuranceJobs#AccountingJobs#TrustAccounting#AFSL#InsuranceAccounting#InsurTech#RemoteWork#StartupJobs
