Senior Node.js Developer (NestJS Experience) – Unpaid, RemoteLocation: RemoteDuration: 20 weeks (with potential to transition into a paid role + equity via ESOP)Overview:Tikelt is on a mission to reshape peer-to-peer payments across emerging markets. As a fintech startup committed to innovation and security, we are building a scalable, fast, and secure payment experience.We are seeking a Senior Node.js Developer with NestJS experience to join our backend engineering team. In this volunteer leadership role, you’ll architect and build backend infrastructure that powers Tikelt’s digital payment systems, while mentoring junior developers and contributing to strategic technical decisions.This is a volunteer, unpaid opportunity for experienced professionals who want to have a direct impact in a fast-moving, purpose-driven environment. Outstanding contributors may be offered a transition to a paid leadership role with equity participation following our upcoming funding round.Responsibilities:Backend Architecture: Design and implement scalable and modular backend services using Node.js and NestJS.API Development: Build and maintain RESTful and GraphQL APIs ensuring reliability, security, and performance.Team Collaboration: Work closely with frontend, DevOps, and product teams to ensure seamless feature delivery and end-to-end functionality.Mentorship: Guide and support junior developers and interns, reviewing their code and offering constructive feedback.Database Design: Design and optimize data models for relational (PostgreSQL) and/or NoSQL databases (MongoDB).Security & Compliance: Implement robust authentication, authorization (JWT/OAuth), and data protection measures.Testing & Quality: Ensure code quality with unit, integration, and end-to-end testing using Jest and similar frameworks.Documentation: Create clear and maintainable technical documentation for APIs, system architecture, and deployment practices.Problem Solving: Take ownership of complex challenges and deliver elegant, efficient backend solutions under minimal supervision.Qualifications:4+ years of backend development experience using Node.js, with strong hands-on experience in NestJS.Strong understanding of TypeScript, asynchronous programming, and design patterns (e.g., Dependency Injection, SOLID).Proficient in working with REST/GraphQL APIs, WebSockets, and microservices architecture.Experience with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, and ORMs like Prisma or TypeORM.Knowledge of secure authentication, session management, and data validation techniques.Familiarity with containerization tools like Docker and CI/CD workflows.Solid understanding of Git, Agile methodologies, and collaborative development environments.Previous experience working in a fintech, payment system, or high-availability platform is highly desirable.Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a remote team.What You’ll Gain:Opportunity to lead and shape the backend architecture of a mission-driven fintech product.Real-world experience collaborating with a remote, cross-functional startup team.Leadership exposure and mentorship opportunities.Potential to transition into a paid senior position and earn equity (ESOP) based on contribution and post-funding roadmap.Application Process:To apply, please send us:Your updated CVA brief cover letter explaining your relevant experience, leadership background, and why you’re interested in joining TikeltShortlisted candidates will be invited to:Answer a few technical screening questionsComplete a short, practical coding task (optional if portfolio/GitHub work is comprehensive)Attend an interview via Calendly with our CEO or tech leadHelp us redefine payments.
