About the RoleWe're seeking a Director of Finance and Accounting with construction industry experience to lead all finance and accounting operations for an extremely well-established specialty contractor. This role reports directly to the President and serves as a critical partner to senior leadership.About Our ClientOur client is a highly profitable, family-office owned, vertically integrated specialty contractor with an impressive portfolio of iconic, highly visible projects throughout the New York City area, including landmarks in Times Square and several major sports arenas and stadiums. The family-office takes a "buy and hold" approach to its portfolio, acquiring successful businesses and providing strategic, high-level support to enable organic growth and thoughtful M&A expansion. Patient capital and long-term value creation drive the ownership's investment philosophy.This position offers the opportunity to transition from public accounting into a leadership role at a dynamic, growing organization where your expertise will directly impact strategic decision-making.Key ResponsibilitiesLead all finance and accounting functions, including financial planning, reporting, analysis, and internal controlsDevelop and manage financial strategies that support organic growth and acquisition opportunitiesPrepare comprehensive financial reports and deliver insights to support executive and board-level decision-makingBuild, mentor, and lead the accounting and finance teamCollaborate with operational leaders across all levels to drive financial and operational excellenceManage cash flow, working capital, and financial forecastingSupport M&A evaluation and integration activities as part of the company's growth strategyEnsure compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirementsWhat We're Looking For6-10 years of professional experience, coming from a public accounting firmProven construction or specialty contracting industry experience (must have worked with clients in the commercial or industrial construction)CPA or MBA are firm requirementsStrong familiarity with WIP accountingDemonstrated experience managing direct reports or leading teams on client engagementsAbility to communicate effectively across all organizational levels, from field-based operations to the executive boardroomStrong financial acumen with expertise in accounting operations, analysis, and reportingStrategic mindset with ability to support both organic growth and M&A initiativesExcellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skillsMust be available to work onsite 5 days per week in Queens or Nassau County
