We’re now building an AI-powered shopping assistant to help users find the best products by price, quality, and impact.Having reached profitability in our core market, we’re now scaling globally, with a strong focus on the US.It’s still day 1, come build the future of shopping with us!This position is remote-friendly from France and Spain.Our Legal TeamAt Joko, the Legal team plays a pivotal role in ensuring that we operate within the bounds of the law while driving innovation and scaling our business. We are business partners, not just gatekeepers. Our team is committed to safeguarding Joko’s interests, supporting our ambitious projects, and fostering trust with our users, customers, and partners.We oversee all key areas of law that impact our business, including corporate law, data protection, labor law, IP, commercial contracts, etc… across both France our historical market, and the US where we are expanding.As the Head of Legal, you’ll lead this team, supporting every aspect of our operations and strategy with robust legal expertise.What you will doAs Head of Legal at Joko, your responsibilities will include:Strategic Legal Leadership: Act as a trusted advisor to the executive team, providing strategic guidance on legal matters that impact Joko’s operations, products, and growth strategy.Team Building and Management: Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing legal team, ensuring alignment with Joko’s values and business goals.Commercial and Contractual Support: Oversee negotiations and draft commercial agreements with clients, partners, and vendors, ensuring Joko’s interests are protected.Compliance and Risk Management: Develop and implement legal and compliance frameworks to ensure Joko adheres to all relevant regulations, including GDPR, consumer protection laws, and other applicable standards.Corporate Governance: Manage all corporate legal matters, including board governance, equity-related activities, and investor relations, ensuring legal and regulatory compliance.GDPR: Partner with our DPO to ensure comprehensive GDPR compliance, including maintaining our personal data treatment register and privacy policy, implementing robust IT security protocols, and collaborating with the product team toward a privacy-by-design approach.Labor law: Ensure that we establish a best-in-class legal framework for our employees: fully comply with our ‘accord d’entreprise,’ draft employment contracts and all necessary documents in accordance with labor law, and coordinate CSE management.Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Product, Operations, Marketing, and Finance teams to align legal strategies with business objectives and support new initiatives.Dispute Resolution: Oversee and manage any disputes, litigation, or regulatory investigations, minimizing risk to Joko’s reputation and operations.💎 Our perksAt Joko, we believe that flexibility and trust are essential. We assess both your output and how you think in real time. The exercise will be relevant to the role (e.g. analysis, strategy, or process design).For tech roles: Live technical interviews:Coding interview + System design interviewFor research internships, an additional round may involve analyzing and presenting a research paperStep 3 – Founders interview (45 min): Conversation with two of our founders.References: Up to five calls with former colleagues or managers.☕ You may also be invited for coffee with team members to get a feel for our culture.Preferred ExperienceEducation: You have a Master's degree from a Tier 1 law university with a specialization in private law. Having passed the bar and international experiences such as LLM are clear plusesExperience: You have at least 8 years of experience with a mix of being a lawyer in a top law firm and experience as an in-house counsel, ideally in a startup.You possess knowledge and experience in negotiating contracts, GDPR and personal data management and Corporate law. Additionally, you are adept at preventing and handling legal litigations of any kind.Languages: You are fluent in French and English, both written and spoken, as we are expanding internationally.Communication: You have excellent analytical and synthesis skills, and you know how to explain complex topics in a simple way. You are recognized for your writing abilities.Project management: you are able to lead a project independently, breaking down complex problems into small tasks and hitting milestones.Attention to details: You know that the devil is in the details, and you have a talent for spotting flaws when there are and producing perfect written documents.Mindset: You have an entrepreneurial mindset, you like challenges and you like getting hands-on.Additional InformationContract Type: Full-TimeLocation: Paris Possible partial remote
