About the CompanyOur client is a fast-growing international non-life insurance company in Belgium. Operating across several EU markets, the company offers a diversified range of BtoB insurance lines through strong local partnerships. With a culture grounded in agility, collaboration, and accountability, the company is now looking for an experienced Head of Claims to lead its claims operations and drive best-in-class service across its European footprint. Role overviewThe Head of Underwriting will oversee the development and execution of the company’s underwriting strategy across all European markets. As a key member of the executive team, this leader will ensure disciplined underwriting decisions, consistent risk appetite alignment, and sustainable portfolio profitability.Working closely with senior leaders in the group the Head of Underwriting will build a framework that balances innovation with technical excellence.Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and maintain underwriting guidelines, authority levels, and governance processes aligned with regulatory standards and company risk appetite.Oversee underwriting performance, profitability, and portfolio management across geographies.Collaborate with reinsurance and actuarial functions to design risk transfer strategies that optimize capital efficiency.Drive continuous improvement of underwriting tools, systems, and pricing methodologies.Monitor market trends and competitor practices to adapt underwriting approaches for emerging risks (e.g., climate, cyber, and ESG-related).Participate in product design and launch, ensuring new offerings meet risk-return criteria and regulatory standards.Candidate ProfileMinimum 10 years of non-life underwriting experience, including at least 5 years in a leadership role with European exposure.Proven ability to build and execute underwriting frameworks and governance structures.Deep understanding of EU insurance regulation (Solvency II, IDD) and risk-based pricing.Analytical mindset with excellent portfolio management and commercial acumen.Effective communicator, capable of engaging internal and external stakeholders (brokers, regulators, reinsurers).Fluent English required; proficiency in French or Dutch highly desirable.Degree in Actuarial Science, Economics, Law, or Business; a professional qualification such as CII Advanced Diploma in Insurance is an asset.
