With a customer-first mindset, we make doing business with McCain easy.About The Role.McCain Foods Timaru is seeking an experienced and proactive Health & Safety Lead for a 12-month fixed-term contract. In this pivotal role, you will drive the implementation and ongoing enhancement of our site’s safety management system, ensuring a secure and compliant environment for employees, contractors, and visitors alike. You will collaborate closely with operational teams to deliver hands-on support in risk management, incident reporting, compliance, and safety training. In addition, you will champion a culture of continuous safety improvement by actively engaging with frontline teams, supporting innovative safety initiatives, and ensuring rigorous adherence to relevant health and safety legislation and company policies.What You’ll Be Doing.Coach Key Risk Area (KRA) working groups and provide expert safety guidance; act as the primary escalation point for project issues.Coordinate the Central Safety Committee and manage KRA group presentations in line with the H&S Due Diligence Calendar.Facilitate and coach process-based risk assessments, ensuring alignment with the annual safety plan.Lead investigations of high-potential incidents and oversee event/action management to ensure compliance by line leadership.Support the Senior Safety Manager and operational teams in the H&S aspects of McCain’s continuous improvement initiatives.Serve as a key liaison for employees in the return-to-work process.What You’ll Need To Be Successful.Experience with risk assessments and control implementationKnowledge of incident investigation principlesUnderstanding of emergency preparedness and responseSite inspection, monitoring, and audit experienceProficient in interpreting H&S audit/inspection dataExperience developing or updating H&S documentationSkilled in coaching and influencing frontline teams on H&S systemsExperience or willingness to coordinate return-to-work and injury management programsAbout The Team.You’ll be joining a small but high-performing and collaborative team that prides itself on delivering results while maintaining a supportive and enjoyable work environment.
