The center consists of over 100 clinical and administrative staff, and there are currently 16,800 students eligible to use SHAC services.SHAC strives for inclusive and equitable hiring practices. All SHAC staff participating on search committees have completed PSU’s Inclusive Hiring Workshop.Health Promotion & Education, a unit of SHAC, provides a vital component of the healthcare continuum. Health promotion is a proactive approach to health care that stresses prevention using various strategies with the ultimate goal of keeping people well. The focus of health promotion rests in comprehensive community level interventions that are aimed to influence the environment in which people live, work and learn.This work is accomplished through health promotion programs (planned, organized events and activities that empower people over time to make informed decisions regarding their health) and health education (providing a health enhancing learning experience for individuals through workshops, classes, and individual sessions).In addition, by advocating for policy change/development and organizational support, Health Promoters are key players in assisting communities along the path of optimal wellness. Article 17 Section 11 refers: https://drive.google.com/file/d/19oNDP2hCMsKTq20713GYnnxxiv_vExXu/viewPosition SummaryUnder the supervision of the Director of Health Promotion, the Health Education & Outreach Coordinator provides leadership and functional responsibility for the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of multi-faceted promotion efforts in a variety of health and wellness areas, including but not limited to stress management, sleep hygiene, sexual health, nutrition, fitness, and resilience as part of a comprehensive health promotion program operating with a health equity lens.The Health Education & Outreach Coordinator WillTrain and supervise peer health educators. Monitor and evaluate all of the programming of the peer health educators (workshops, outreach events, project collaborations, educational materials, etc.).Design and conduct campus-wide health promotion initiatives using health promotion theory and student development theory, including but not limited to environmental management, social movement, policy development, social norming.Apply principles of health equity to programs, services and activities relevant to the diversity of the student population.Positively and meaningfully affect student health and wellbeing.Design, implement, and analyze periodic student health surveys & evaluation assessments.Collaborate with students, campus and community partners on initiatives, policies, and research to develop a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to wellbeing and health promotion initiatives.Serve as a department representative on campus and community committees as requested.Participate in strategic planning, assessment and evaluation of Health Promotion efforts.Develops goals and measurable objectives for policies, programs, and services that evaluate effectivenessPropose and manage specific program budgets.Oversee the management, maintenance, promotion, and assessment of the Student Wellbeing Lounge.Minimum QualificationsDegree in Public Health, Health Education, Health Promotion, Social Work or related fieldPreferred QualificationsExperience in college health promotion, experience working with peer health educators, experience in health promotion program development.Master’s with 1+ year of related experience.CHES (Certified Health Education Specialist) or CHES eligibleKey Cultural CompetenciesCreate an environment that acknowledges, encourages, and celebrates differences.Function and communicate effectively and respectfully within the context of varying beliefs, behaviors, orientations, identities, and cultural backgrounds.Seek opportunities to gain experience working and collaborating in diverse, multicultural, and inclusive settings with a willingness to change for continual improvement.Adhere to all of PSU’s policies including the policies on Prohibited Discrimination & Harassment and the Professional Standards of Conduct.Environmental StewardshipContributes to a culture of environmental stewardship, practices resource conservation, and actively works toward achieving long-term sustainability goals.Work Days/Hours Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm Total Compensation Range & Benefits StatementThe starting salary rate for this position will be between $62,700 and $65,000.
