Location: UPMC Sports Surgery Clinic, Santry, Dublin 9.Job type: Full-time Contract of EmploymentOverview Of RoleThe role of the Health Care Assistant is to assistthe Nursing Staff in the delivery of patient care, under the supervision of theClinical Nurse Managers and Staff Nurses. The primary role is to assist nurses with nursing care and associatedduties.Primary Duties And ResponsibilitiesDistribute sputum and denture cartons to patients as required and ensure denture cartons are labelled appropriately.Remain with patients who require observation, following assessment by nursing staff.Deal with patient's personal property.Take care of patient's dentures, glasses and hearing aids.Receive patients and visitors to the wards with courtesy.Answer telephones (please see telephone etiquette) and locate appropriate personnel when necessary.Answer call bells, deal with appropriate requests, and report other requests to nursing that bells are in working order and are within the reach of the patient.Clean and assemble equipment as required e.g. trolleys, drip stands, etcAssist with the disposal of clinical waste and clean procedure trolleys daily.Make occupied and unoccupied beds and cots and turn mattresses on weekly basis.Move beds and furniture within wards as required.Attend to spillages immediately to reduce the risk of accidents.Ensure linen cupboard and store areas are kept tidy and stocked.Assist patients to dress and pack in preparation for discharge.Restock aprons and gloves in clinical areas.Keep emergency exits clear at all times i.e. ensure chairs are stored appropriately after visiting hours.Help prepare the ward for cleaning.Ensure that sluice room, bathrooms, toilets and other ancillary rooms are kept clean and tidy, in the interest of patient care and Health and Safety requirements.Assist in keeping the ward areas and day room tidy.Carry out errands as requested by Clinical Nurse Managers or Deputies e.g. collect faxes/charts, patient errands within the clinic, pharmacy, stores, laboratory and errands to other wards.Report broken items in need of repair to the Clinical Nurse Manager.Wash all patients' basins daily, also drip stands, fans, feeding pumps and other equipment as required.Report to nursing staff any complaints of pain, distress or needs expressed by patients.Assist other support staff with storage of CSSD and stores.Assist the transport team transport patients to and from Theatre.Work as a Covid-19 swabbing HCA in the Test Centre.Qualifications & ExperiencePossess a good standard of educationFETAC Level 5 essentialPrevious experience of working in a caring profession is desirable.Have the ability to work on own initiative, prioritise and manage a number of issues simultaneously and demonstrate attention to detail.Have the ability to undertake the physical demands of the role.Be motivated and able to identify potential difficulties and formulate solutions.Be free from any defect or disease which would render him/her unsuitable to hold office and be in a state of health as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.Be of good character.EqualOpportunity Statement And BenefitsUPMC is an equal opportunity celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environmentfor all employees.At UPMC we provide a total rewards programthat is not only market competitive, but fair and provides growth opportunitiesfor all our colleagues.Compensation - Competitive pay for the work employees do - base pay, performance related payand premium pay where applicable.Performance and Recognition - Rewards for performance that supports the goals and mission ofUPMC through our annual ACES programme.Developmentand Career Opportunities - Opportunities for each employee to reachtheir career goals through continued learning and/or advancement.AboutUPMCUPMC is a renowned multinational academic medicalcentre committed to delivering people-focused care that's close to in Pittsburgh and affiliated with the University of PittsburghSchools of the Health Sciences, UPMC shapes the future of health throughclinical and technological innovation, research and expands its expertise globally, bringing world-class care acrosscontinents through its UPMC International division - an owned and operatednetwork of hospitals and ambulatory care centres in Italy, Ireland andCroatia.
