Project: General hospital in Basra - IraqDepartment: Surgical Services / Operating TheatersReports To: Medical Director / General ManagerLocation: Iraq/Basra – Full Time / On-SiteRole ObjectiveProvides leadership and operational management for all surgical services, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care in the Operating Rooms (OR). Optimizes staffing, scheduling, sterile workflows, and resource utilization while maintaining strict compliance with infection control and international surgical standards.Key Responsibilities1. Oversee daily surgical operations, ensuring continuous OR readiness and smooth patient flow.2. Enforce sterile techniques, infection prevention standards, and use of proper PPE at all times.3. Monitor key operational metrics such as OR utilization, delay causes, turnover time, and cancellation rates.4. Implement and supervise surgical safety checklists (WHO standards).5. Lead OR nursing and technical teams, ensuring proper staffing, shift coverage, and skill mix.6. Conduct performance evaluations and skills assessments for OR personnel.7. Develop competency-based training programs for new hires and ongoing staff development.8. Promote effective teamwork and communication during surgeries and critical events.9. Coordinate with Central Sterile Services (CSSD) and Warehouse to ensure timely availability of instruments and consumables.10. Validate functional readiness of devices: anesthesia machines, monitors,and surgical technology.11. Prevent avoidable cancellations through efficient supply chain practices and proactive planning.12. Ensure adherence to MOH regulations and international surgical safety guidelines.13. Conduct regular audits on infection control and OR compliance indicators.14. Support hospital accreditation readiness and continuous improvement initiatives.15. Work closely with surgeons, anesthesia teams, ICU, ER, and inpatient units to align service delivery.16. Participate in the strategic expansion of surgical service lines and the introduction of new technologies/specialties.17. Serve as a liaison between clinical leadership and operational support departments.Required Qualifications1. Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or the Allied Health field required.2. Valid professional license.3. Minimum 5–7 years of experience in perioperative services, including 2+ years in a supervisory/leadership role.4.
