Our Human Resources group is currently looking to add a Human Resources Business Partner to our team, based in Edmonton or Calgary, AB on a 6-month term.Reporting to the Vice President, Human Resources, we are seeking an experienced HR professional who has knowledge and experience supporting geographically dispersed business units, implementing best-in-class HR practices, aligning HR initiatives with business objectives, and driving employee engagement by leveraging HR programs, policies and processes. This is a hands-on role that requires a strong HR background, exceptional interpersonal skills, and the ability to influence and navigate a fast-paced and dynamic environment.Duties And ResponsibilitiesCollaborate with senior leaders to develop and implement HR strategies that support organizational goals and drive business performanceLead recruitment initiatives as required by operational needs and provide strategic guidance for recruitment and staffing needsCreate and execute recruitment plans to attract top talent based on requirements, including full cycle recruitment activities (pre-screening, interviewing, onboarding)Develop and implement programs that foster a positive work environment, support talent development activities as well as enhance employee engagement, satisfaction, and retentionProvide expert advice on the interpretation and application of HR policies, procedures, and employment legislationConsult with leaders to address performance concerns through the performance management processes, including disciplinary / non-disciplinary actions, goal setting, performance reviews and development plansProvide guidance on addressing performance issues and improving overall team performanceParticipate in or lead formal and informal employee investigations as required and provide effective recommendations for resolution are providedMaintain compliance with federal, provincial, and local employment laws and regulationsCollaborate with appropriate company resources to resolve any potential or real litigation or legal issuesUnderstand Valard's wage adjustment process, make recommendations and improvements as well as collaborate with leadership on requests for compensation-related issuesManage the termination process including determination of severance, terms and conditions and outplacement in consultation with legislationLead or participate in HR projects, such as HR system implementations, process improvements and cultural initiativesCoordinate with Labour Relations on ongoing grievances and disputes Update and maintain HRIS, JDE and SharePoint Identify gaps and areas of risk as they are understood, making recommendations for improvementRequirementsPost-Secondary Education in a Human Resources related field7 years' experience providing HR Advisory support in a corporate environmentDemonstrated experience support full cycle recruitment activitiesProven knowledge of applicable legislation and regulationsTechnical experience with HR systems (i.e. HRIS, ATS, ERP)Preferred Skills / QualificationsChartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation Experience supporting Utility Construction EnvironmentsExperience supporting unionized environmentsJob Posting End Date: November 9th, 2025BenefitsWe offer a comprehensive and competitive total rewards package that incorporates a complete range of employee benefits to ensure you have the tools necessary to manage, maintain, and improve your health and wellbeing.About Our BusinessValard Construction is Canada's premier utility contractor providing comprehensive EPC+ (engineering, procurement, construction) and maintenance services to utilities, independent power producers, mining, oil and gas industries and rural electric associations.
