Job Title: Human Resources Specialist, Leave of Absence (LOA)Location: Universal City, CA 91608Work Arrangement: 100% Onsite, Monday-FridayDuration: 6-Month Contract (Temp-to-Hire Possible, Not Guaranteed)<.>Position Summary:The Human Resources Specialist - LOA manages the end-to-end interactive process for all reasonable accommodation (RA) and leave of absence (LOA) cases for both union and non-union employees. This role partners with employees, Park Management, HR Business Partners, Health Services, Workers’ Compensation, and the third-party leave administrator, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local leave laws.The ideal candidate has recent, hands-on experience with CA-specific leave laws, ADA, FMLA, and high-volume LOA/RA case management, especially within industries involving physically demanding roles (theme parks, retail, manufacturing, warehouse, facilities, etc.).ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:Leave & Accommodation AdministrationDrive the interactive process for all reasonable accommodation and leave of absence requests.Partner closely with Management, HR Business Partners, Health Services, Workers’ Compensation, Legal, and the third-party leave administrator.Process and track LOA/RA requests to ensure compliance with FMLA, CFRA, FEHA, ADA, USERRA, and other applicable regulations.Conduct onsite visits to support employees needing workplace modifications or accommodation evaluations.Serve as the primary contact for employees needing information on LOA or accommodations; educate and guide them through available resources.Support the HR Coordinator - LOA in tracking leaves (Disability, Workers’ Comp, Parental, Personal, Professional).Compliance & Case Management:Ensure LOA and accommodation cases are handled independently, timely, and compliantly from start to finish.Maintain confidential documentation and workflow forms in HR systems.Partner with HR Business Partners on employee relations, attendance issues, and leave-related escalations.Draft and send communication to employees throughout the LOA/RA process (email and regular mail).HR Operations & Support:Utilize SAP, HRIS systems, and Microsoft Office to streamline and track HR processes.Mentor and guide HR Coordinators and support partners in understanding LOA/RA processes.Provide backup support for the HR team as needed.Perform other assigned duties.QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:Bachelor’s degree preferred (HR, Business, Communications, or related field)— OR Certified in Leave of Absence administration.Minimum 2 years HR experience with LOA/disability knowledge OR 1 year dedicated LOA/disability HR experience.Strong working knowledge of:FMLAADACA LOA laws: CFRA, FEHAWorkers’ CompensationMedical disability managementDemonstrated ability to manage LOA and RA cases independently end-to-end.DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS:Experience working with both union and non-union environments (hospitality, retail, theme park preferred).Experience supporting hourly or frontline employee populations.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.SAP or HRIS experience preferred.Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Teams.Strong judgment, confidentiality, and professionalism.Critical thinking skills and the ability to navigate sensitive conversations.Comfortable working in a fast-paced, changing environment.Ability to independently prioritize and solve complex problems.
