Join ISZL as our next Humanities (I&S) Subject Lead (specialism in Geography preferred)At the International School of Zug and Luzern (ISZL), we’re not just another international school. In addition, all teachers participate in our student Personal Development Programme as a Homeroom Teacher or teacher of our MYP ‘Core’ Programme. We also expect all our staff to support an ethos of holistic learning through their support of an after school club, activity or sport. It is also an expectation that staff contribute to our Personal Development Week by leading/and or taking part in a residential trip for at least 5 days in term time with students.The successful applicant would also be eligible to be considered for the position of ‘Subject Leader: Humanities faculty’. Additional information about the responsibilities associated with that role can be found here.This is a full-time position and will begin in August of 2026.The RoleThe Humanities (I&S) Subject Lead (specialism in Geography preferred) is expected to:Teach Humanities/Geography courses in the High School (from MYP, IBDP, AP and/or ISZL courses) and maintain curriculum documentation for these coursesDemonstrate a commitment to student centred and inquiry driven pedagogyInvolve students in planning for their own learning through appropriate and regular assessment;Plan and implement significant units of work within a framework of continuity and progression;Using a variety of different teaching strategies and resources to cater for a variety of different learning situations, abilities, and styles. Experience of UDL planning is an advantage but not essentialOffering regular, written, formative feedback on student progressDemonstrate effective classroom management that shows an understanding of the academic, social and emotional dimensions of learningParticipating in Personal Development Week (experiential education trip) and our Personal Development Programme (i.e, teaching PSHE, Homeroom or Service as Action)Be able to offer a co-curricular activity or sports team coaching after school as part of our wider programmeContribute to the smooth running of the school through performing regular duties and being familiar with school policiesLead by example and partner with students in their engagement with the community, locally, nationally, and internationallyWhile working with ISZL ColleaguesCollaborate with colleagues to ensure departmental and school-wide philosophical alignmentCollaborate within course teams to review, develop and refine the Humanities/Geography courses to maximise and enhance student learningParticipate in departmental, divisional and schoolwide meetings as appropriateEngage with colleagues to deepen practice and learn from each other through regular meetings, lesson observations and professional development opportunitiesDemonstrate a strong commitment to professional learning, reading and demonstrate professional curiosityWorking with ISZL Parents and External CommunityEngage parents as a true partner in the learning processKeep parents informed about the learning of their children, and be proactive in communication with parentsDisplay student work to showcase their learning and accomplishmentsPresent occasionally at parent eveningsWhat We Are Looking ForPlease refer to ISZL’s Candidate ProfileThe candidate should hold a recognised teaching qualification or certificationPreference will be given to candidates with a Swiss or EU passport/valid Swiss work permit (for Swiss work visa requirements) but consideration will be given to all suitably qualified candidatesWhy ISZL?Because ISZL is more than a school.
