The Chief Engineer is responsible for managing all aspects of the hotel’s engineering and maintenance operations, ensuring the physical integrity, safety, and efficiency of the building and its systems. This includes HVAC, electrical, plumbing, life safety, and energy management. The Chief Engineer leads a team of maintenance staff and works closely with other departments to support smooth hotel operations and an exceptional guest experience. YOUR DAY-TO-DAY: Operational LeadershipDirect, supervise, and coordinate daily activities of the engineering and maintenance team. Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance programs for all hotel systems, equipment, and facilities.

Respond promptly to guest requests, maintenance issues, and emergencies, ensuring timely resolution. Inspect guest rooms, public spaces, and back-of-house areas for functionality, safety, and maintenance needs. Project & Budget ManagementPlan and manage capital improvement projects, renovations, and upgrades. Maintain and monitor departmental budgets, ensuring cost-effective purchasing and energy conservation. Keep accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment logs, and compliance inspections. Safety & ComplianceEnsure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including fire, health, safety, and environmental codes. Conduct regular safety training for engineering staff and oversee adherence to hotel safety procedures.

Serve as the point of contact for external inspectors, contractors, and utility providers. Team LeadershipRecruit, train, and develop engineering team members to maintain high service and performance standards. Schedule work shifts, delegate responsibilities, and conduct performance evaluations. Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement. WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU: Minimum 5 years of engineering or maintenance experience in a hotel or commercial facility, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role. Strong technical knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, and general building maintenance. Experience with energy management systems and sustainability practices preferred.

Working knowledge of safety and compliance standards (OSHA, fire codes, etc. ). Proficient in using maintenance management software (CMMS) and Microsoft Office Suite. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to remain calm under pressure and handle emergencies effectively.
