GENERAL ADMINISTRATION (NW-GENA-IUNWA)No Job Description AvailableIndiana University Northwest (IUN) is seeking a visionary and results-driven Executive Director for Facilities and Operations (EDFO) to lead and advance the strategic direction, operations, and sustainability efforts of our campus facilities. This critical leadership role oversees a broad portfolio including maintenance, grounds, building services, custodial operations, sustainability, construction project management, general administration, dining services, and parking services. The Executive Director will play a key role in shaping the physical environment of our vibrant university community by ensuring facilities are safe, functional, sustainable, and aligned with institutional goals.
Department-Specific ResponsibilitiesEngages in campus strategic planning, establishes policies and procedures, and has shared responsibilities for long range institutional planning and projects. Serves as the account manager for facilities with budgetary responsibilities. Provides leadership for coordinating campus emergency preparedness activities. Complies with federal, state, and IU regulations and policies. Provides strategic leadership and operational oversight of all facilities services, including maintenance, building services, custodial, landscaping, sustainability, energy management, construction, general administration, dining services, and parking services. Manages a large team of professionals, technicians, and staff; recruits, develops, and retains talent to support a culture of service excellence and continuous improvement.
Provides supervision, guidance, and professional development opportunities for staff. Leads long-term planning for campus infrastructure and capital improvements in alignment with the university's mission and strategic plan. Oversees the development of master plans and long-range facilities plans, including space utilization and capital renewal planning. Forecasts future facility needs and identifies opportunities for operational improvement. Develops and executes strategic plans for facilities that align with IUN's organizational goals and objectives. Serves as the university's primary liaison with external contractors, architects, engineers, and city officials on facilities-related matters.
Partners with campus stakeholders to identify and prioritize facility needs while providing timely and customer-focused solutions. Develops and administers operating and capital budgets with a focus on cost-effective operations and sustainability. Ensures internal operations are aligned with strategic priorities and recommending improvements. Manages day-to-day operations, including scheduling maintenance, repairs, and handling emergencies. Oversees vendors selection, contract negotiation, and management of service providers. Utilizes enterprise data systems for operational decision-making. Explores and recommends cost optimization strategies. Prepares reports and updates for senior management on facility performance and budget. Ensures compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local regulatory requirements (e.
g. , OSHA, ADA, EPA, JCAHO). Implements safety procedures and manages emergency response and safety preparations, ensuring a safe and secure environment for occupants. General ResponsibilitiesContributes on senior leadership teams to formulate strategic planning and the highest-level operational objectives for Facility Operations areas. Consults on long-term and short-term business plans and strategic direction, including managing project timelines/deliverables and developing resource plans for multi-project/multi-phase Facility Operations initiatives. Directs leadership staff who provide supervision to Facility Operations teams. Responsible for escalated operational issues, including human resources and/or people management situations.
Drives innovation and excellence within the area of Facility Operations; reviews and creates policies and procedures. Determines overall budget for Facility Operations teams; reviews and approves financial proposals from direct reporting leaders; has significant fiscal responsibilities that require frequent interaction with executive leaders. Provides expertise and identifies grant and/or funding opportunities; develops business relationships across the university and externally.
Stays up-to-date on new Facility Operations standards, procedures, technologies, and safety measures and works collaboratively with other Facility Operations leaders across departments and/or campuses in determining standards, best practices, and related policies/procedures; ensures the adoption and implementation by direct reporting leaders.
