The ideal candidate will be responsible for the on-site installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of IT, networking, security, and telecommunications systems.This role involves field deployments, client support, equipment repair, structured cabling, and technical assistance across multiple environments—from homes to corporate enterprises. The technician will deliver exceptional service while ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and security of all deployed systems.This position offers a hybrid work arrangement combining on-site field assignments with remote administrative or technical tasks when required.Key Responsibilities1. IT Support & TroubleshootingDiagnose and resolve hardware, software, and operating system issues (Windows, macOS, Linux).Setup, repair, and maintain desktop computers, laptops, tablets, and peripherals.Perform printer setup, repairs, maintenance, and calibration.Provide remote and on-site user support.Install and configure software, antivirus, updates, and security patches.2. Network Installation & MaintenanceInstall and configure routers, switches, access points, and firewalls.Perform LAN/WAN troubleshooting, WiFi optimization, and connectivity tests.Execute structured cabling (Ethernet, trunking, and fiber-optic cable runs).Conduct network surveys, signal testing, and network performance analysis.Configure VLANs, hotspots, VPNs, and enterprise WiFi solutions.3. Security System Installation & SupportInstall and configure CCTV surveillance systems (IP/Analog).Set up NVR/DVR systems, remote viewing, and storage solutions.Install and maintain access control systems (RFID, biometric, smart locks).Deploy alarm systems (fire, smoke, intrusion sensors) and test functionality.Provide ongoing maintenance and troubleshooting for installed security systems.4. Telecom & Wireless DeploymentsInstall long-range wireless access points, microwave radios, and point-to-point/point-to-multipoint links.Configure hotspot solutions, captive portals, and RADIUS-based authentication.Conduct site surveys for ISP deployments (signal strength, alignment, mast installation checks).5. Smart Home & IoT ConfigurationsInstall smart devices including smart locks, cameras, sensors, lights, and automation systems.Integrate IoT platforms (Alexa, Google Home, Tuya, Smart Life).6. Systems & Server SupportAssist in deploying Windows/Linux servers, NAS devices, and UPS systems.Rack-mounting, patch panel termination, and cable management.Support backup and recovery procedures.7. Reporting & DocumentationPrepare job cards, maintenance reports, and technical documentation.Record serial numbers, installation details, and configuration logs.Communicate with supervisors, clients, and team members clearly and professionally.Required Qualifications & SkillsEducationDiploma or degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Telecommunications, or a related field.Technical SkillsStrong knowledge of computer hardware repair and troubleshooting.Proficiency with printers, scanners, and office equipment maintenance.Experience with networking equipment (MikroTik, Ubiquiti, TP-Link, Cisco).Basic understanding of cybersecurity concepts and safe IT practices.Familiarity with CCTV, access control, and alarm systems.Knowledge of Windows/Linux operating systems.Ability to configure internet setups, WiFi networks, and hotspots.Soft SkillsStrong analytical and problem-solving abilities.Excellent communication and customer service skills.Ability to work independently and as part of a field team.Good time management and attention to detail.High integrity, professionalism, and reliability.Other RequirementsMust be willing to travel frequently within Kampala and other regions.Ability to work at heights (ladders, rooftops) when necessary.Physical ability to lift, mount, and carry equipment.Must own or be able to use a smartphone/tablet for field reporting.A valid driving permit is an added advantage.Preferred Certifications CompTIA A+ or N+Cisco CCNAMikrotik MTCNA / MTCREUbiquiti UEWAFiber Optic Technician CertificateCCTV or Security Systems Training CertificateWhat We OfferCompetitive salary based on experienceCareer growth and professional trainingOpportunities to work with advanced IT and security technologiesA dynamic, supportive, and innovative work environment
