Infrastructure System EngineerLocation: Brussels, Belgium (on-site or hybrid, European Commission)Contract Type: Freelance (B2B)Duration: Long-term (framework contract)Rate: €8,000 / month (excl. VAT)Citizenship: EU citizenship requiredSecurity Clearance: To be obtained after selectionAbout the ProjectJoin one of the core IT infrastructure teams supporting the European Commission in Brussels. As an Infrastructure System Engineer, you will ensure the availability, security, and performance of large-scale systems used across the institution. You will work within a multicultural and high-security environment, collaborating with experts in networking, cybersecurity, and cloud operations.Key ResponsibilitiesManage, maintain, and optimize infrastructure systems (Windows / Linux servers, virtualization, and cloud environments).Administer Active Directory, Azure AD, and Intune for identity, access, and device management.Ensure security compliance and assist in the implementation of endpoint protection, vulnerability management, and patching.Support Office 365 and collaboration environments (Exchange, SharePoint, Teams).Participate in infrastructure upgrades, migrations, and performance tuning.Troubleshoot incidents and provide 2nd / 3rd line support to end users.Draft technical documentation, procedures, and configurations.Cooperate with cybersecurity teams during audits, risk assessments, and compliance checks.Contribute to process automation and continuous improvement following ITIL best practices.Required Skills & ExperienceMinimum 8 years of professional experience in IT infrastructure or systems administration.Strong knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, Azure AD, Intune, Office 365, and network management.Experience with Linux environments, Docker, and AWS (advantage).Understanding of cybersecurity principles and endpoint protection (e.g., Sophos, Okta).Ability to work independently and communicate effectively in English.Excellent troubleshooting and documentation skills.EU citizenship and willingness to go through security clearance.Nice to HaveExperience within EU Institutions or other public sector organizations.ITIL certification or equivalent.Familiarity with virtualization, automation, or DevOps tools.Why JoinWork within a prestigious European institution in Brussels.Participate in strategic IT transformation projects.Stable, long-term contract under a well-established framework agreement.Collaborative, international, and high-impact work environment.
