Job DescriptionJob SummaryDutiesUnder supervisor guidance, you will be responsible for inspection activities in a 14-county area in Northeast Indiana. The inspection activities will include retail egg inspections, wholesale egg inspections, Shell Egg producer inspections for USDA Shell egg Surveillance program, USDA Country of Origin Labeling audits, and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) shell egg producer inspections under 21 CFR 118. Additional duties will include:Verifying packaging is properly labeled, eggs meet quality standards, and that the product is being maintained in an environment that promotes a safe product to the consumerReviewing Egg production facilities SE Prevention Plans, reviewing supporting records to assure compliance with the FDA Egg Rule, preparing and/or reviewing comprehensive reports for submission to FDAPerforming Country of Origin Labeling (COOL) Inspections at retail locations throughout Indiana. Activities include: preparing a final report of findings, communicating findings with retail management, and transmitting the information to the appropriate regulatory agencyConducting shell egg surveillance inspection of USDA registered egg production facilities and hatchery operations as designated by the USDA/AMS under the Egg Products Inspection ActEvaluating shell eggs to verify quality and confirm appropriate environmental controlOther duties as assignedWhat We're Looking ForBachelors degree1 year experience in retail food industry or food production/processingIn lieu of degree consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of related education and required experience (Associate's degree + 3 years of experience; HS/GED + 5 years of experience)Have or be able to obtain certification to conduct COOL audits per USDA/AMS (Agricultural Marketing Service) COOL program requirements and Shell Egg Grader and Surveillance certification through the USDA/AMS Poultry ProgramsCertification for COOL must be obtained within 30 days of employmentGrading/Surveillance certification must be completed by the end of the first 8 months of employmentA good understanding of the retail food industry, including the production and distribution of shell eggsA general knowledge of food safety and sanitation proceduresBasic computer operation, organizational, time management, and communication/conflict resolution skills essentialAbility to establish own work schedule and be self-motivated to complete a level of work expected of the positionAbility to conduct an inspection in a professional manner and record and submit findings to the appropriate agencyAbility to understand and interpret laws and regulations pertaining to the inspection being conductedAbility to deal with potential conflictAbility to pass a Office of Personnel Management (OPM) background screening and obtain/maintain FDA credentials and commissionAbility to pass an annual respiratory physical and fitness testValid U.S. or Canadian drivers licenseNice To HaveExperience in food or shell egg inspectionKnowledge of shell egg grades and labelingWhat We'd Like You To KnowThe position is a remote position with the official work station being your residenceAll equipment required for the position is providedA vehicle for work activities is suppliedThis position is responsible for 14 counties in Northeast Indiana.
