Job Description

CloudScaler Technologies B.V. is looking for an Instrumentation & Control Engineer specializing in Fire Alarm (FAS) and Fire Extinguishing Systems (FES). You will design, engineer, and commission fire and safety systems in compliance with NFPA, EN, and Dutch standards, and ensure smooth integration with control systems.Job Purpose:To design, implement, and maintain Fire & Gas (F&G) and Fire & Explosion Safety (FES) systems for offshore oil and gas facilities, ensuring compliance with project requirements, international safety standards, and regulatory codes. The engineer will also provide technical expertise for control systems integration and support safe operations across all project phases — from FEED through commissioning and operation.Key Responsibilities:Engineering & DesignDevelop and review Fire & Gas (F&G) system designs including cause and effect (C&E) charts, alarm philosophies, and system architecture.Conduct Fire and Explosion Safety (FES) studies — including hazard identification (HAZID), HAZOP, and fire/explosion risk assessments.Prepare system specifications, datasheets, and control narratives for F&G and ESD (Emergency Shutdown) systems.Select and specify field instrumentation (gas detectors, flame detectors, heat/smoke detectors, manual call points, sounders/beacons).Integrate F&G systems with DCS/ESD/PLC systems ensuring proper logic and interlocks.Review vendor documents, control panel layouts, wiring diagrams, and ensure system compliance with project and safety standards.Support SIL (Safety Integrity Level) assessments and ensure compliance with IEC 61508 / IEC 61511.Project ExecutionProvide technical input during all project stages: FEED, detailed design, FAT, SAT, commissioning, and start-up.Participate in offshore surveys, equipment inspections, and installation verification.Coordinate with multidiscipline teams (process, mechanical, electrical, HSE, etc.) to ensure safe and effective design integration.Support interface management between F&G systems and firewater, HVAC, and process safety systems.Safety & ComplianceEnsure all designs adhere to relevant offshore and industry standards such as NFPA, API RP 14C, IEC, ISO, and ABS / DNV codes.Contribute to safety case documentation and verification activities.Conduct fire and gas mapping studies and ensure proper detector coverage using tools such as FLACS or Detect3D.Documentation & ReportingPrepare engineering deliverables: P&IDs, control narratives, F&G layouts, cause & effect charts, and functional design specifications.Maintain as-built documentation and participate in design reviews and audits.Qualifications & Experience:Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, or Control Engineering (Master’s preferred).Minimum 5–10 years of experience in offshore oil & gas projects, focusing on Fire & Gas / FES systems and control systems.Proven experience with offshore platforms (fixed, FPSO, or subsea) or petrochemical plants.Strong working knowledge of DCS, ESD, and PLC control systems (Honeywell, Yokogawa, Emerson, Siemens, etc.).Familiarity with tools for F&G mapping and safety analysis (e.g., Detect3D, FLACS, PHAST).Good understanding of international codes and standards (IEC 61508/61511, NFPA, ISO 13702, API RP 14C).Experience in conducting FAT, SAT, and commissioning for control and safety systems.Strong communication and coordination skills with multidisciplinary teams and vendors.Offshore survival and HUET certification preferred.Key Competencies:Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Excellent understanding of control system integration and safety logic.Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.Ability to work in high-pressure offshore environments and meet deadlines
