Job Description

BEFORE YOU APPLY: Please read the compensation information at the bottom of the page!We are currently looking for legal counsel who would be interested in collaborating with us on setting up our company’s legal infrastructure. We are looking for help with IP law. We are incorporated in Ireland and have remote contributors from various jurisdictions. More below.ABOUT THE COMPANYWe are creating films, games, and comics - stories with soul - for our own fantasy universe (think Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, etc., but smaller - for now hehe). We started 4 years ago as a small team of folks who were initially supposed to package a TV show. Finding ourselves unwilling to assign away our IP, we decided to build out the universe ourselves to retain (creative) control. Now, 4 years later, our rag-tag band of pirates has grown to over 150 members (far over 200 depending on how you count). Our current slate includes 3 short films (2 in active development, 1 in post production, 30min each), a comic book series (9 issues of Season 1, 40+ pages/issue), and two games (one Card Game online and offline version featuring our characters and factions, and one TTRPG with oneshots, campaign rules and region expansions). We also produce fantastic music, Shopify-sold merchandise, handcrafted art, documentaries about the making of Soul Atlas, Lore Videos, and Shorts. We have been working on getting greenlight, production up, worldbuilding ready, and marketing infrastructure set up. Now our task is mostly about improving the existing processes and bringing us into our first launches with financial implications (thus far, we took on some investment but have not made revenue yet - you first have to make a film to make box office).YOUR RESPONSIBILITIESWork together with the group of experts on the various types of laws to understand the problem space and risk map of our new companyLend your expertise and research skills to find answers and solutions to questions and problems concerning our intellectual property (trademarks, wordmarks, rights assignments, licensing etc.)(Help) draft or review contracts that support the key milestones we are working onMILESTONESOur Ops department’s main goals to which you would be contributing:Create an investor agreement or master service agreement in collaboration with our COO to regulate both royalties/profit share, as well as centralize IPCreate a solid two-company structure with licensing agreements and sweeping IP protectionsWork with the ops team to ensure compliance with national and international IP lawCreation of protective trademarks, brandmarks, and wordmarks, where appropriate, at this early stageYOUA trained law professional or advanced law student interested in collaborating with us on this projectKnowledge of Irish and/or international IP lawSpeak Professional EnglishCOMPENSATION DETAILSTime Investment:Part-time.
