Interaction Designer Remote working (with monthly visit to Newcastle base – 2 days on site back-to-back)3 months + (overall project expected till March 2026)Inside IR35 Our central government client is seeking an Interaction Designer to support the delivery of user-centred digital services. The role focuses on designing accessible, consistent, and intuitive experiences using the GOV.UK Design System and Frontend framework, ensuring compliance with WCAG 2.2 accessibility standards. You will work across multidisciplinary teams to translate insights into prototypes that meet both user needs and service goals.Role OverviewThe Interaction Designer will create interactive prototypes, design flows, and visual mock-ups that align with GDS standards and best practices for progressive enhancement. You will facilitate collaborative design workshops and journey mapping sessions using Mural, taking concepts from ideation to prototype. The role requires balancing creative iteration with practical delivery constraints, often within fast-paced agile environments.Core Requirements:Provide design leadership and hands-on interaction design across complex projects to deliver coherent and consistent service experiencesExperience using the Heroku prototype tool to rapidly build and iterate design conceptsProficient with a range of design and prototyping tools including Framer, Webflow, InVision, and Axure RPApply GOV.UK Frontend components to produce accessible and consistent digital interactionsFacilitate workshops for team collaboration and ideation, mapping user journeys and wireframe iterations with MuralGain a deep understanding of user needs across service areas and translate research insights into actionable design approachesSimplify complex information and processes, creating services that are easy to understand and useWork closely with user researchers, developers, content designers, and business analysts within an agile frameworkDeliver high-quality outputs that align with GDS and GOV.UK design principles, incorporating feedback from multiple stakeholdersHandle difficult client conversations around design direction or changes with professionalism and clarity
