We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and with their International Federation in order to ensure a concerted, rational and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. PurposeThe generalist field officer assists the Head of Sub-Delegation (HoSD) Khartoum center, based in Atbara and covering Khartoum state, River Nile state, and Northern state. S/he plays a key role in supporting ICRC management in establishing a network of contacts at the local/regional level and facilitates interactions with key interlocutors who are essential for the implementation of the ICRC’s operational strategy (e. g. , government officials, tribal and community leaders, armed actors, etc. ).

S/he has an additional crucial role in managing operational communication, representing the ICRC, and explaining the ICRC’s role, mandate, and activities to the aforementioned actors, and in context and security analysis. Furthermore, the Assistant contributes to the ICRC’s security framework and day-to-day security management in the center and north of Sudan. Reports to (role)Head of Sub-DelegationAccountabilities & Functional ResponsibilitiesActively networks with key actors in the region, contributes to stakeholders mapping and analysis while maintaining an operational dialogue with security interlocutors and actors of influence.

Leads and participates in internal and external meetings with state authorities, local/regional Red Cross/Red Crescent Society branches and the community. Shares relevant information with colleagues and reports any changes in the security and humanitarian situation. Contributes to designing ICRC’s humanitarian interventions in central Sudan. Collects and compiles information about ICRC’s humanitarian interventions and contributes to written reporting. Contributes at the level of the delegation or sub-structure to implementing (or implements) and following up of various field activities, in accordance with our operational objectives.

Monitors the humanitarian environment and needs, and analyses the security, socio-economic, cultural and political environment as relevant to the ICRC. Participates in, and may carry out independently, follow-up of field missions. Desired Profile And SkillsStrongly motivated by humanitarian workAble to work under pressure in a potentially dangerous environmentCertifications / Education RequiredBachelor’s degree or equivalent higher education degree in a humanitarian area, socio-economic development, humanitarian law, human rights or equivalent field Postgraduate or master’s degree is an asset.

Very good knowledge of the socio-political environment of the countryVery good context knowledge or experience of working in Khartoum, River Nile and northern states will be an added value. Fluent level (minimum C1) of English Readiness to spend 50-75% of the time in the fieldDriving License; Succeeded in ICRC Driving test. Professional Experience RequiredTypically, 4–6 years’ overall professional experience. 3–4 years’ experience as a manager or program officer in similar fields or other organizations or governmental structures, 2–3 years with the ICRC an asset.
