A knowledge-sharing organization that works collaboratively with diverse partners.Professional development opportunity and mentorship.A rapidly growing center within an academic setting.Job DescriptionPositions at the Natural Science Center and the Petit Science Center are unique in comparison to the Inventory Control Specialist at other locations within our unit. The incumbent under supervision is required to perform routine and analytical work needed to support reagents, solutions, equipment and materials used in scientific exercises and experiments.The incumbent must understand the purpose of technical laboratory equipment; assist in the purchase scientific laboratory supplies and equipment. Must insure safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous or biohazardous materials. He or she must maintain accurate computerized records, catalog databases, reports and files. Must perform administrative requirements accurately and efficiently. Must constantly update knowledge of changing environmental health and safety regulations and advances. Must apply policies, procedures, rules and regulations; and at times work independently; maintain cooperative working relationships; demonstrate sensitivity to, and respect for a diverse population.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES Assist in the purchase of required items, receiving of scientific shipments and verifies contents in accordance with Homeland Security and Center for Disease Control procedures. Assists in maintaining proper controls and the storage of sufficient inventory of supplies and equipment; acquires, handles and maintains living organisms. Maintains computer records of items delivered and received through an automated inventory system. Compiles data from sources such as purchase orders, bill of lading, and other accounting records to record receipt or disbursement of materials or supplies, and computing inventory balances. Insures asset numbers are generated and decals placed on equipment considered as assets. Counts material, equipment or supplies in stock and post totals to inventory records. Reviews records for accuracy of information and compliance with established polices and procedures, and to determine adequacy of stock levels. Prepares and issues materials and equipment for use in student laboratory demonstrations, experiments, exercises and exams. Implements new or modified polices and procedures as required. Safely handles laboratory equipment and hazardous or biohazardous materials. Assists in implantation of departmental polices and procedures to comply with federal, state, and local hazardous materials, health and safety hazardous waste regulations in addition to university environmental health and safety policies. Recommends to supervisor environmental health and safety related improvements and modifications; routinely inspects and tests safety equipment and supplies; responds to laboratory emergencies including injuries and spills of hazardous or bio hazardous materials. Utilizes forklift and hand trucks to load or remove equipment to and from delivery trucks. Assists department with special projects as needed and performs other related duties as assigned.QualificationsMinimum Requirements:Associate degree or high school diploma or GED and four years of related experience. A valid Georgia driver’s license is required.Must obtain the following certifications within the first 30 days of employment: Right-to-Know Basic Awareness, Right-to- Know Chemical Specifics, Bloodborne Pathogens; Hazardous Waste Awareness and Fire Extinguisher Education and Awareness. Must obtain Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certification within the first year of employment.Preferred RequirementsMust be able to perform physical activities such as, but not limited to lifting (up to 50lbs unassisted), bending, standing, climbing or walking while handling scientific laboratory equipment and supplies to designated science area.Must be knowledgeable of CPR & First Aid, Right to Know and NFPA 45 Certification.Efficient in the use of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Powerpoint applications and inventory tracking systems in general.Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.Effective time management and organizational skillsMust have valid State of Georgia Drivers License.College/Business UnitOpen until filledLocation: Atlanta CampusJob Posting: 11/20/25, 8:55:30 AM
