Job Description

Veterans Treatment Court Case Manager - (25141835)Position SummaryThe 8th Judicial District Court seeks a part-time Case Manager to serve Native participants in the Veterans Treatment Court. This role is a vital member of the Treatment Court’s clinical team, working closely with participants to assess needs, develop treatment plans, connect them with resources, and monitor progress. If appropriately licensed or qualified, the Case Manager may also provide direct clinical services such as counseling, therapy, cognitive-behavioral interventions, skills development, and rehabilitative support. The position also supports the Veterans Treatment Court Coordinator with daily operations, grant compliance, and reporting.

This position requires independent judgment, strong initiative, and a collaborative approach. Work is reviewed by the presiding District Judge and the Treatment Court Coordinator. Key ResponsibilitiesAssist in providing comprehensive case management. Participate in staffing and court hearings. Conduct phone calls, office/home/employment visits as necessary. Monitor and assist participant compliance and progress; suggest appropriate incentives and sanctions; and coordinate community-based services to improve participant stability. Utilize and deliver cognitive-behavioral interventions to address criminal thinking and increase readiness for change. Assist the Coordinator with grant writing, compliance, and reporting.

Assist participants in identifying and addressing barriers such as housing, employment, and medical insurance. Connect participants to medical, mental health, and substance use treatment services, including VA and community providers. Support participants in navigating public benefits (SNAP, WIC, TANF, HUD) and accessing community resources (utilities, rent, food, clothing, legal assistance). Teach life skills such as budgeting, financial literacy, time management, and goal-setting. Work with participants to achieve educational goals (GED, college, vocational training). Collaborate with the Treatment Court team to coordinate care and share participant progress. Participate in team meetings, trainings, and program evaluation activities.

Perform other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Abilities, And SkillsKnowledge of the methods, practices, and procedures of case management including research, assessment, and case monitoring. Knowledge of local community and social service resources. Knowledge of the needs of minorities and other cultures including the culture of poverty. Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques. Knowledge of office computer programs. Ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, with a diverse group of people. Ability to recognize and maintain the need for confidentiality. Ability to use good judgment and discretion.

Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, elected officials, representatives of other agencies, the public, and occasionally distraught, angry, or volatile people. Skill in the operation of a personal computer and other modern office equipment. Qualifications: (Any combination of training and work experience which indicates possession of the knowledge, abilities and skills listed above. An example of an acceptable qualification for this position is: )Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in sociology, psychology, social work, criminal justice or a related field and extensive prior experience providing case management services.

Experience working with substance use disorders, mental health conditions, and licensures or certifications to provide services to those individuals is preferred but not required. PreferredLicensure or certification to provide clinical services (e. g. , LCSW, LCPC, LAC). Experience working with substance use disorders, mental health conditions, veterans, or Native communities. Additional RequirementsValid Montana driver’s license and proof of insurance if using a personal vehicle for work. Working Conditions & Physical DemandsPrimarily office-based with some community outreach. Occasional exposure to individuals in crisis or under the influence of substances. Requires sitting, standing, bending, and lifting up to 25 lbs.
