Job Description

OverviewThe Reaching Impact Saturation and Epidemic Control (RISE) program is saving lives and improving health by controlling the HIV pandemic and strengthening global health security to limit the spread of deadly disease outbreaks. RISE uses evidence-based practices from over 20 years of PEPFAR implementation to address critical HIV priorities along with global health security (GHS), maternal, newborn, and child health and nutrition (MNCH-N), tuberculosis (TB), Malaria, data systems, supply chain and commodity management, and other cross-cutting areas. In Botswana, Jhpiego is recruiting for an anticipated new project supporting Botswana’s lifesaving HIV services.

ResponsibilitiesThe HIV Services Nurse is a front-line clinical provider responsible for the day-to-day management of clients receiving HIV-related services at static and mobile outreach sites. The role includes delivering comprehensive, high-quality, and client-centered HIV care and treatment, TB screening, PrEP for Pregnant and breastfeeding women, and related health services. The nurse will ensure service quality, client engagement, satisfaction, and adherence to clinical protocols while maintaining accurate documentation and contributing to continuous quality improvement efforts.

Provide direct clinical care including HIV testing, ART initiation and refill, TB screening, PrEP services, and sexually transmitted infection (STI) management at static and outreach/mobile sites. Provide PrEP to pregnant and breastfeeding women at risk of acquiring HIV Ensure that all services are delivered according to national guidelines and project standard operating procedures (SOPs), with strict adherence to infection prevention and control (IPC) protocols. Engage clients respectfully, provide tailored health education, and ensure informed consent and confidentiality at all times. Monitor client treatment adherence and provide support for retention and re-engagement in care as needed.

Support implementation of community-based differentiated service delivery (DSD) models, including multi-month dispensing (MMD) and community ART groups. Screen and refer clients for co-morbidities including TB and other opportunistic infections, ensuring timely follow-up and continuity of care. Screen, diagnose and treat/refer clients with advanced HIV disease (AHD). Ensure client satisfaction by addressing concerns, maintaining privacy, and ensuring culturally sensitive service delivery. Document all services rendered accurately in client records, registers, and digital tools in a timely manner. lead site-level data review meetings and support the use of service delivery data to improve performance and address gaps.

Provide support and on-the-job support to peer educators, lay counselors, and community health workers. Support community mobilization and demand creation efforts for HIV testing and treatment services. Design and implement interventions to improve reach of clients and close linkage, ART continuity, viral load coverage, viral suppression and performance indicators Lead the planning of outreach/mobile services Develop and implement site plans to ensure achievement of key performance indicators Report clinical and programmatic challenges to the Program and Technical Coordinator and contribute to problem-solving and quality improvement efforts.

Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in nursing with or related qualification Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Botswana. Advanced KITSO and nurse prescribing and dispensing trainings Minimum of 5 – 6 years’ experience providing HIV care and treatment services, including ART, PrEP, and screening and treatment of opportunistic infections including TB. Experience working in outreach settings or community-based programs is an added advantage. Demonstrated commitment to client-centered care, quality improvement, and respectful service delivery. Good interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. Proficient in the use of clinical records and health information systems. Fluent in English and Setswana.

Willingness to travel frequently within assigned sites.
