With offices in New York, Dublin, London and Sydney, we work every day with leading newsrooms.This role will work closely across our editorial team to discover and acquire timely news and viral video content in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate is passionate about social media and trending online content.You will have a strong background in journalism and know how to apply those skills to user-created content. You will also excel at verifying social content, and have excellent editorial judgment about what marks out must-see user-generated footage.The successful candidate will be responsible for not only discovering the key trending videos, but also managing the video acquisition process with content creators and eyewitnesses.In this role, you’ll be trained on our industry-leading technologies and learn our processes for finding and verifying social media content from news events happening around the world.Foreign language and video editing skills are preferred, but not essential for consideration. This role will require weekend and evening work.ResponsibilitiesMonitoring Storyful’s news feeds for emerging stories and undertaking advanced searches using our proprietary tools to discover original, eyewitness content Gathering and verifying UGC images, posts, videos and other content from the social webIdentifying and acquiring the key videos within any breaking or developing story Writing clean, concise and accurate copy for publication on the Storyful Newswire.Working to deadlines and set targetsWorking closely with newsroom clients and content creatorsIdentifying and executing on opportunities for long-form reporting and research projectsWork with an international editorial team to find contact information for content creators and following up directly with those involved in storiesManage the execution of licensing agreements with content creators, both by phone and via written outreach.Flexibility to work various shifts as needed, including weekends and unsociable hoursActively pitch and develop unique stories that are on brand for StoryfulUnderstanding stories that work for Storyful’s clientsAny other duties set out by editorial management teamRequired Experience & QualificationsExperience in journalism, particularly online or broadcast journalismA self-starting journalist who is plugged into current events around the worldA fluid, natural communicator who can write copy for publication. All finalists will be administered a copy test.Target-driven attitudeExpert understanding of content discovery on social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, Instagram, YouTube, Telegram, TikTok etc.Ability to spot emerging stories on social media, find the source, and verify the contentAn excellent command of English is essential and comfort in speaking on the phone to clients, sources and video uploaders is a requirement.
