About the RoleAs a Design Engineer, you will lead complex engineering projects by conducting research, performing analysis, and developing new designs and Bills of Materials (BOMs). This role requires strong decision-making skills, close collaboration with cross-functional teams, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. You will play a key role in ensuring product quality, manufacturability, and customer satisfaction.Key ResponsibilitiesDesign and manage custom features to meet customer specifications and production requirements.Apply engineering standards to ensure compliance with FMVSS regulations and support manufacturing needs.Collaborate with vendors and purchasing teams to ensure materials meet design and quality expectations.Identify and implement process improvements within the engineering department.Review and support pilot runs and production documentation.Resolve fabrication and assembly issues related to design, materials, or processes.Recommend design changes based on customer needs and market trends.Assist CAD technicians with documentation and design standards.Support manufacturing teams with troubleshooting and follow-up activities.Communicate regularly with Purchasing to minimize excess and obsolete inventory.Validate design packages for accuracy and completeness.Manage Engineering Change Master documentation and updates.Propose material substitutions to optimize cost and availability.Conduct root cause analysis for production issues.Participate in continuous improvement and cost-saving initiatives.Perform other duties as assigned.QualificationsBachelor’s degree in EngineeringMinimum 3 years of experience in engineering or manufacturing (trailer manufacturing preferred).Minimum 3 years of experience in Proficiency in SolidWorks.Understanding of manufacturing processes and production environments.Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.Knowledge of electrical and pneumatic systems (air circuits).Strong problem-solving and collaboration skills.Ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to changing priorities.Leadership Attributes at WabashWe believe in empowering our people and living our values every day:Embrace Diversity & Inclusion – Value different perspectives and foster transparency.Seek to Listen – Engage actively to find the best solutions.Always Learn – Pursue growth and challenge the status quo.Be Authentic – Show integrity, energy, and resilience.Win Together – Collaborate across teams to achieve shared success.
