We also support our customers through performance-based agreements, lifecycle upgrades, and decarbonisation services. We are seeking a Junior Data Scientist to join our Strategy team.

In this role, you will play a key part in enabling data-led decision making across Wärtsilä Marine by transforming diverse datasets into actionable insights. Your work will support strategic analysis, business planning, and innovation across a wide range of domains—from market intelligence and operational performance to customer behaviour and emerging trends. Location of the position is preferably Helsinki, Vaasa, Turku (FI) or Trieste (IT). This position is temporary with a possibility for a permanent contract. The position holder reports directly to the Vice President, Strategy. Key Responsibilities:

Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including software developers, to design and implement data-driven strategiesPartner with domain experts to identify opportunities for value creation through data insightsAnalyse large datasets to uncover trends, patterns, and opportunitiesRapidly prototype dashboards, visualizations, and performance metrics to support strategic decisionsConduct descriptive analytics and build predictive models to forecast outcomes and support business planningOversee the deployment, monitoring, and maintenance of predictive models on Wärtsilä platformsContribute to the development of advanced business intelligence tools using both structured and unstructured dataSupport top management with ad-hoc and recurring data analysisRequired Qualifications:

Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Software Engineering, or a related fieldProven experience in data science, including statistical modelling, data engineering, and visualizationProficiency in PythonProficiency in Microsoft Power BI is a plusSolid understanding of statistics and data analysis techniquesExperience with SQL and writing complex queries is a plusKnowledge of the maritime industry is highly desirableIdeal Candidate Traits:
