Job DescriptionThe main responsibilities of this role are to teach the theoretical and practical instruction of students in the subject of Carpentry while they help youth deepen their conversion to Jesus Christ and His restored gospel, prepares righteous educated servants of the Lord who build the Kingdom of God, and assists them to reach their divine purpose that enables them to live successful, self-reliant lives. This position works under the direction of church school Principal and its administration. . The person in this role should have a strong background in teaching, learning, and working with youth.
The person in this role teaches the vocational subjects as well as church principles and doctrine to help students learn to become a future leader in their family, church, and community, English proficient, meaningfully qualified, and lifelong learners. ResponsibilitiesAs a secondary school Carpentry Teacher, you will be required to teach a full load of secondary school Carpentry classes at junior and senior level plus other subjects as requested. You may also be required to assist with extra-curricular student activities as necessary, before and after school hours as well as weekend activities.
Crucial to success in this position will be a passion for youth and education, coupled with being team orientated and demonstrating a ‘can do’ attitude. Critical to always maintain classroom management keeping students safe. Previous training and/or experience in Carpentry will be highly regarded. As a teacher, you will serve as a role model to students and the wider school community. At all times you will be expected to maintain a spirit of religious compassion toward others and an attitude of devotion to God. Work in partnership with the school leadership, faculty, parents, students, and the community.
Follow and implement school policies and procedures. Teach in the Savior’s way by focusing on Jesus Christ, loving those you teach, teaching by the Spirit, teaching the doctrine, and inviting diligent learning. Provide students theoretical and practical instruction on assigned subject matter. Establish and maintain classroom expectations so students can learn in a safe environment. Study and implement curriculum and use good judgment on how to utilize it to teach students effectively. Assess student learning and grade their knowledge and skills according to defined criteria. Use computer software to track student information and performance, attendance, and grades.
Contribute to school plans that facilitate learning, including budgets, inventories, facilities, curriculum, etc. Build a strong relationship with your line leader and receive guidance and ongoing training. Create unity and communicate with students and parents regularly. Develop a knowledge and understanding of the principles and practices of Teaching in the Savior’s Way and the Leadership Pattern. Required to participate in regular training opportunities to improve your job performance and career development. Constantly work with your line leader on development and performance, maintain a professional development plan, work toward accomplishing goals, and render an account.
Seek for, receive, and act on feedback through self-evaluations, and observations from student and leaders. May be asked to participate in or lead programs or activities, including after-hours. Align with Seminaries and Institutes (S&I) Leadership and local leaders.
Required QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s Degree or Trades Certification in Carpentry or related qualification preferable ITEP Teaching Certificate or Tertiary level Ministry of Education approved teaching Certificate advantageous High school teaching experience in Carpentry or related field is advantageous Demonstrated understanding of concepts and principles associated with Carpentry High level English language skills (verbal and written) Ability to effectively teach Junior – Senior level Highly organised and hard-working, with the ability to work well with students and in using proven appropriate classroom management strategies Has experience with effective remediation and response to intervention practises Communicates effectively and collaboratively engages in a Professional Learning Community Ability to accept and to act upon constructive feedback, and continue developing professionally Able to inspire and teach the gospel while teaching Cookery Team player, Cheerful ‘can-do’ attitude Basic to intermediate computer skills Police Clearance required Maintains Temple worthiness standardsNote:
