As an independent, not-for-profit organization, L’Alliance New York’s mission is to provide our members and students with engaging French language classes and audacious multi-disciplinary programming that celebrates the diversity of francophone cultures and creativity around the world.

L’Alliance New York is internationally known for offering the largest selection of fully-immersive French language courses for students aged one to 101, and for its renowned cultural programming including the annual Bastille Day celebration that takes place on New York's famed Madison Avenue, attracting over 30,000 visitors each year; the Crossing The Line arts and performance festival that engages NYC cultural institutions in bringing dynamic international artists to audiences; Animation First, the biggest animation festival in the U. S; and the Comic Arts Fest, celebrating the intersection of American and francophone comic arts.

 Position Summary As a People & Culture Generalist, you drive daily HR operations and support cross-functional projects that enhance employee experience, compliance, and team performance. Act as a trusted partner to employees and managers. Key Responsibilities: HR Operations, Compliance & SystemsManage day-to-day HR operations across the full employee lifecycle: onboarding, offboarding, status changes, benefits, and time-off tracking. Draft and maintain all employment documentation, including offer letters and employment agreements for Director review. Ensure HR templates and document libraries are accurate and up to date. Maintain and analyze HRIS data and employee records to ensure data accuracy and compliance.

Help ensure compliance with employment laws and internal policies. Work with the People & Admin Assistant, providing guidance and quality control on administrative tasks. Talent Acquisition & OnboardingLead end-to-end recruitment for assigned roles: job descriptions, postings, screening, interviews, and coordination. Own and coordinate the new hire onboarding experience, in collaboration with the People & Admin Assistant. Ensure seamless onboarding logistics, compliance, and early integration of new staff. Collect feedback and continuously improve onboarding processes. Employee Experience, Engagement & CultureSupport the management of employee benefits programs, including enrollments, changes, and communications. Co-lead internal engagement initiatives in collaboration with the HR Director (e. g.

wellness programs, DEI activities). Plan and coordinate internal events (team-building, onboarding lunches, workshops), including timelines, communications, and vendor logistics. Collect and report on event feedback to inform continuous improvement. Participate in ensuring consistent communication and collaboration across the HR function. Employee Relations, Performance & DevelopmentServe as the first point of contact for managers and employees regarding HR policy interpretation, performance management tools, and day-to-day HR questions. Support the Director on employee relations matters and escalate complex cases when necessary. Collaborate with the Director on annual review cycles, performance tracking, and development planning.

Track performance milestones and ensure timely documentation and follow-ups. Support the planning and rollout of internal training and professional development initiatives. Serve as a collaborative thought partner to the HR Director, supporting special projects and strategic planning. The job description above is not an exhaustive list of duties. How you are: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required; a Master’s degree a plus.

5–10 years of progressive HR experience, including at least one year in a supervisory or leadership role. HR certification preferred (e. g. , SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP). A strong people-first mindset — you genuinely care about employee experience, and you're committed to building trust, inclusion, and engagement across the organization. Demonstrated expertise in: -        Full-cycle recruitment and talent acquisition-        Performance management and employee development-        HR compliance and policy implementation, ideally within a nonprofit or mission-driven organization-        Benefits administration and employee lifecycle management-        Immigration and work authorization processes (e. g.

, visa sponsorship and support)Proficient in HR systems, including ADP Workforce Now, and recruitment tools, comfortable using Microsoft 365 suite, and other collaborative tools. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English mandatory; French language proficiency a plus. Knowledge of French/Francophone Culture. Empathetic, approachable, and solutions-oriented — someone who leads with both heart and judgment.
