Job ScopeAs part of the Mad for Science project, the Diasorin Foundation is seeking a Laboratory Technician to join its team. The goal is to provide ongoing technical support to science teachers in upper secondary schools that have won the national competition for the development of scientific projects. Key Duties and Responsibilities Regularly visit the laboratories of the schools that won the Mad for Science competition, located throughout Italy, to assist science teachers by providing technical support in carrying out experimental activities related to their projects;Help structure and coordinate a collaboration program between local research institutions and the winning schools, with the aim of guiding students toward scientific careers through meetings with researchers;Support teachers in managing laboratory purchases;Collaborate on the institutional communication activities of the Diasorin Foundation (e.g., drafting content for the website). Education, Experience, and Qualifications Master’s degree in scientific disciplines in the biological or biotechnological field, or equivalent education;At least 3 years of experience in a research laboratory, preferably in the life sciences area;Willingness to travel throughout Italy (at least one trip per week is expected; the remaining work can be done remotely);Knowledge and use of key laboratory techniques in: -Microbiology: preparation of growth media for microorganisms, culturing and maintenance of bacterial and fungal strains, main staining techniques; -Molecular Biology: purification of plasmid and genomic DNA from microorganisms, plants, and tissues; use of restriction enzymes; DNA fingerprinting; PCR; agarose gel electrophoresis; expression of recombinant proteins; -Biochemistry: western blot, SDS-PAGE, purification of recombinant proteins; -Cell Biology: preparation of human and murine cell cultures; -Microscopy: preparation of fresh or stained plant tissue slides; use of optical and fluorescence microscopes;Proficiency in using major software tools and databases for bibliographic and genomic research (e.g., NCBI, PubMed, Ensembl);Preferred qualifications include familiarity with Adobe Suite (especially Acrobat Pro and Adobe InDesign), along with documented experience in writing content for the web;Soft skills: Teamwork, active listening, problem-solving, collaboration with teachers and students, continuous learning.
