Reporting to the Senior Manager, Workplace Health and Wellness, the Employee Health & Abilities Specialist provides consultation, triage and management of occupational and non-occupational health absences and accommodations referrals. This may involve referring to LCBO’s disability management partner or independently managing the referral for select employees.

In collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team, you will employ best-practice, disability management principles to facilitate stay-at-work or early-and-safe return to work following injury/ illness, as well as assist with the transition to/from LTD. Support for WSIB appeals and other legal proceedings is also required. If you have experience within Health, Safety and Wellness, then this is the role for you!About The RoleProvide consultation to People Leaders in managing absence/ accommodation. Upon receipt of referral, apply disability case management principles to:

determine employee’s ability to work by assessing their capabilities to the essential job duties; review medical documentation and ensure completeness of medical information with the employee and health care provider; track and manage an employee’s absence/ accommodation in database; identify/ resolve RTW barriers, and leverage resources and additional services to facilitate RTW (eg, independent assessments). Provide support on cases of non-compliance by facilitating coordination with Business HR and LR as appropriate. Liaise with People Leaders to determine suitability for referral (eg, re-direction to other Leave of Absence option or facilitate referral to disability management partner.

Provide consultation on complex work accommodation (eg, implementation of assistive devices, permanent accommodation). Coordinate with HR Advisors/ Business Partners, Labour Relations and Legal, when employees fail to cooperate with relevant policies. Plan, coordinate and monitor RTW following LTD absence. Meet quarterly with LTD provider to review claims for progress and appropriateness of claims management, review possible return to work opportunities, consult on complex accommodation plans such as substance abuse and/ or prepare employee’s transition to other opportunities at change in definition. About YouPost-secondary education in relevant knowledge field or an acceptable combination of education and experience.

Working knowledge of relevant legislation (e. g. Ontario Human Rights Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, Employment Standards Act, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act). 3-5 years' experience in disability management. Experience in using PDAs, ergonomic assessments, IMEs, or vocational rehabilitation assessments as tools for disability. Experience with mental health claims. Experience in analysis of disability management and wellness trends and identification of appropriate remedial actions. Ability to exercise sound and timely, professional judgment in complex situations while maintaining empathy. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and in a team environment.
